Murtha voted NO.

I think his statement later when asked was "Nancy told me to."

:D

How about a law that mandates all schoolchildren recite this socialist loyalty oath that mentions God?

If Hillery gets voted in, then you can vote on that. As for now, that is not up for a vote.

My friends in Canada, I thank you for your support. We have to re-defeat Communism.

It is going to take time, but I know that I have the resolve.

good Lord, for a minute there I thought it said "PROTESTS" although I wouldn't have been shocked I'd have surely been pissed.

So did I...thought I needed my glasses. Maybe someone just changed it.

Article III Sec 2 does not say that Congress can regulate the Supreme Court's Original Jurisdiction. In fact, the Original Jurisdiction of the Supreme Court can only be changed by constitutional amendment. The exceptions and regulations clause only applies to appellate jurisdiction which Congress may regulate. The only cases which the Supreme Court is required to hear under the Constitution are those to which it has Original Jurisdiction (i.e a case to which ambassadors, public ministers, consuls, and states are a party).

Thanks to a pledge written by a Socialist in 1892

And the bible was written by sinners.

passed 260-167. It now goes to the Senate where its future is uncertain.

Ahh.. the enlightened, all-wise, self-pontificators called the US Senate will hold the torch high....(barf)

Let's see how the squish Sen. Lieberman votes on this one?

The Rev. Barry Lynn, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, said that under the bill, "religious minorities will no longer have the right to go to federal court to defend their deeply held religious beliefs."

Not quite you twisted POS. This bill will keep the tyrant black-robed judicial hacks from overthrowing the will of the people and removing references to God in the public sphere. This is America...not Red China.

Unfortunately they wouldn't have the 2/3rds majority needed.

I bet they would.

I dont support this "act" or whatever it is they are going to call it. This is simply one of those poltical moves by Republicans that they can use to bludgeon the Democrats with. I guess it might make good tactics, but I think its pretty dumb, like the flag burning amendment. Another "stupid Republican" trick..

200 years ago there was no pledge. 53 years ago there was no "under God" phrase in the pledge.

200 years ago prayers and Bible reading were an everyday occurrance in schools.

You probably couldn't have imagined such things would be argued so far in the future from 200 years ago.

No, but not for the reasons you imply. God used to be very much in the public square. Now God is virtually outlawed.

This law they just passed didn't have 2/3rds majority. I think a Constitutional amendment would be harder to approve.

No, they voted against a resolution that supported keeping the words "under God" in an unofficial pledge.

I don't know who your God is, but mine is strong enough not to need to be protected by my inconsequential soul.

This is simply a game of "Gotcha!" like the Flag Burning Amendment vote.

Why do you think this came up now?

How the pledge used to be performed...

What year was that picture from? I was a child of the early 50's and we never saluted the flag like that...always with the hand over the heart!!
