Good morning and afternoon to all the Finest on this WFW.

A little story for you ... )

For a few months now, I've been occasionally visited by some of the neighborhood cats ... dropping by to have a little snack from the food dish I leave out for them on my porch.

Several of the little rascals have gotten wise to the free chow, but my most frequent guests have been a little female and a brawny male, usually arriving alone but sometimes together ... 2 or 3 times, I've caught them a'courtin' and sparkin' on the porch.

It's been a real joy to have the occasional feline visitation.

A couple of weeks ago, the night before July 4th, I let go of work for the evening, and kicked back to watch a movie.

Wanting something wholesome and all-American, it was a choice between Pulp Fiction and Lady and the Tramp, so I chose the Disney movie.

It's a newly released, remastered edition, just gloriously beautiful ... and cute as hell.

I'd only seen it once, long long time ago ... remembered a few scenes.

Thoroughly delightful experience.

In the movie, Tramp brings his Lady to the Italian restaurant where the two cooks provide a romantic meal for the puppy loves.

A couple of days later, the little female cat and the male, who I call Socks, both showed up on my porch so I played the happy Italian and gave them a good dinner .. they hung out for awhile, tolerating my presence.

I thought Wow, this is just like the movie ... my own little Lady and the Tramp.

Then, a few days afterwards, I stepped out on the porch to see the Lady lying peacefully, watchfully by the food dishes as 3 little kittens eagerly munched away ... she brought her babies up for chow ... )

Good grief, are they cute ... three kittens ... two dashed when they saw me, but the third stayed, heavy into his dinner.

He's the brave one ... I call him Spots.

Every day since then, in the morning and the cool of early evening, they all come by for food.

I've been going through milk and chow like crazy.

Sometimes, Socks hangs out with them, watching cooly from a few feet away ... he's been coming by more regularly now, and has even spoken to me and let me pet him ... he's also let me know how much he likes canned food.

Saturday morning, sitting on the bed plunking away on my Tennesee Flat-top Box, little Spots came trotting through the front door, looked up at me, layed himself down for a few minutes while he looked around, then dashed back outside.

They're all very shy ... Spots is the only one who's come near me ... but I can tell they're getting used to me, at least a little.

I think their name for me must be Big Scary Monster ... if I get too close, or move too quickly, they take off around the corner, then return for more dinner after I retreat.

I love watching them ... they eat and roll and play, then jump over to the side of the cabin to play some more.

Then ... poof ... they're gone wherever they go until the next meal time.

It's all quite amazing ... a new experience for me ... well, I mean I've been an Uncle for a long time now, but suddenly I'm an Uncle again, now to a buncha kittens.

I marvel at their beauty and grace, the way the Lady watches over them, their eyes full of curiosity and wonder at this big wide world that is so new to them.

Gotta share my good fortune, so here are a couple of pics

The Lady and two of her babies.

LIttle Spots.
