I still recall many happy hours playing adventure on an ASR33 teletype in 1981. The game was written by Willy Crowther in FORTAN and ran on the mainframe at the Bell System Center for Technical Excellence in Lisle,IL. Many hours were spent trying to diagram all the paths, objects, magic words and actions. The first person graphics of today's games just turns them into an exercise in eye/hand coordination.

I was stuck at that facility on my birthday, August 26th. As I played adventure, a large entourage of other students walked past in the hall. All dressed in their bedsheets and chanting, "Toga, toga, toga". Somehow I think they had been overly impressed by a trip to see Animal House.

As long as no one got killed they were okay. One of the members from my house got real messed up. Thought he was Jim Belushi. That is the limitation with Hollywood. It is just pure fantasy. Always will be.
