Iraq raps Putin for 'sarcasm' on Iraqi democracy (Putin with Terrorists)

BAGHDAD, July 17 (Reuters) - Iraq's government criticised Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday for making fun of its U.S.-sponsored democracy at the G8 summit.

At a news conference on Saturday in St. Petersburg with U.S. President George W. Bush, Putin responded to comments by Bush on Russia's own brand of democracy by saying in a barbed aside: "We of course don't want to have a democracy like the one in Iraq."

"Mr. Vladimir Putin ... has diminished the importance of the democratic experience in Iraq with a sarcastic remark," read a statement from the office of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.

Maliki's office said: "The government of Iraq was astonished at this remark. It ignores the daily sacrifices and unique courage shown by Iraqis who turned out in large numbers ... to exercise their right to vote.

"We'd like to remind Mr. Putin that change in Iraq does not appeal to some in the region. Unfortunately, they are supporting terrorism, which threatens this unique experience."

Putin, a former KGB spy, has resisted U.S. criticism that he has curbed human rights in Russia and he has in his turn been a critic of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, where widespread violence has blighted Washington's efforts to install a stable democracy.

Iraq should invade Russia. Afghanistan and Chechnya would probably join them.

Putin's state-run oil and gas monopolies were making tons of cash off of Saddam's UN Oil-for-Palaces scam. Now he helps the Iranian jihadist terrorists try to push the US out of the middle east.

Thanks for the ping.

Watch the segment here! Our President was very nice and measured with his remarks and the smartass, no offense to FReeper of same name, was a jerk. Listen carefully at the very end.

Putin wouldn't know what democracy is if it looked like Carmen Electra and banged him all night long.

Putin is nothing more then a KGB colonel. He really does not want democracy in Russia. He and his cronies have been playing the US like a fiddle. He pretends for the sake of foreign investments and the hopes Russian oil and gas will ultimately be able to revive the country, and become a super energy producing center. Then they go back to their dictorial ways, with a rebuilt military to attempt to obtain parity with the US.
