Today, on his first day back from the G8 Summit in Russia, the President met with the winner of the 2006 Indy 500, Sam Hornish Jr, and his wife Crystal at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. This afternoon, he met with a bi-partisan panel of Congressional leaders in the Cabinet Room of the White House to brief them on G8, and on the war in the Middle East, after which he made a statement to the press and answered a few questions. Later he met in the Oval Office with members of the National Capital Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
We can be thankful in times such as these to have a man like President Bush leading not only the nation, but the world. Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose!
Quote of the Day (from yesterday's joint press conference at the G8 with Prime Minister Singh of India): THE PRESIDENT: Thanks for coming over this morning. It's always a pleasure to be in your company. He's one of the really true gentlemen in the international arena. He's got a wonderful heart. I know you've been through difficult times, and America mourns the loss of innocent life as a result of the terrorist attacks.
One of the issues that we've been discussing here at the G8 is the recent terrorist activities in the Middle East. Yesterday, in working with other members of the G8, we cobbled together a very important statement. I'm most pleased that the leaders came together to say, look, we condemn violence, we honor innocent life.
However, for the first time we've really begun to address with clarity the root causes of the conflict, the recent conflict in the Middle East, and that is terrorist activity -- namely, Hezbollah, that's housed and encouraged by Syria, financed by Iran, are making these moves to stop the progress of peace. We would hope that by addressing the conditions of this violence we could get to a situation where there was calm. We're going to work hard as nations to address the root cause. Yesterday was an important statement. The reason I tell you that is that you'll find nations willing to work together for the common good here.
I also look forward to discussing with you our trade matters, as well as the wonderful deal you and I negotiated. Our Congress is working on that important piece of legislation that will encourage and allow India and U.S. cooperation, and I'm optimistic that we will get that passed.
The intensity made it number one......
And a late one from yesterday........too cute not to be at the top!

I loved it! You gotta know, he wishes he could speak that bluntly all the time!
Hi!
I find it appalling that the MSM spends more time with the Pres' "s" word, than statements made about abolishing Israel!
Yahoo caption.....Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, left, stands next to President Bush, second from left, during a photo opportunity on the South Lawn of the White House, Tuesday, July 18, 2006, in Washington. From left is McCarrick, Bush, first lady Laura Bush, Papal Nuncio Pietro Sambi, and Archbishop of Washington Donald W. Wuerl.
What Bush really said was that Syria needs to get Hezbullah to "cut out this Shiite."
Personally, this kind of off-the-cuff comment (if that's what it was...I suspect it was intentional, letting Syria know that we know that they're pulling the strings) is the kind of thing that people admire about Bush. When I first heard of it, my thought was "the Cowboy's back!" Bush is always best when he's speaking what he's thinking, not what someone has written for him.
With the accompanying question.............does anyone else think he's planning on sliding down the railing to the tarmac??
I missed that when I first saw that picture! How playful and fun-loving!
