A&E recently ran a program on Atlanta's meth problems. Apparently it's a hub for distribution. The stuff coming in from Mexico is almost 100% pure - whatever that means.
Locals described it as, "You can find it everywhere. It's at every party and at every bar. Many folks will approach you to see if you need any."
One teenager laughed at the 'drug free zone' posted at her school. She also said it was everywhere.

For reasons unknown, meth is like NASCAR, in that it is a huge cultural behemoth in the rest of the country, but never really caught on in the NYC area.
I'm not saying that nobody around here does meth (some people even watch NASCAR), but it's just not impacting here like it is in other parts of the country. I think even the Pennsylvania Amish are having trouble with it!

While I in no way advocate the use of meth or other illicit drugs, I at times wonder how much of this is event and agenda-driven....If a mayor, chief of police, sheriff, etc. tells his personnel to 'crack down on left turn violations,' or 'I want an increased effort on prostitution,' etc. the mere allocation of additional resources and command emphasis will generate a 'rise' in stops for illegal left turns and prostitution arrests...a locality may even report an 'epidemic' of left turn violations and prostitution based on the statistical rise...

I don't know about the finished product but I do know that
ephedra, the primary precursor for meth, is smuggled into the southwestern U.S. in 55-gallon drums from Mexico.

What exactly is Meth? It seems something new on the drug market. Where does one go about discovering what this drug is and does to people? And, why is it so popular?
I don't usually listen to news on a daily basis but I heard of this but don't understand what it is.

Thanks for posting this. I was going to put it up a few days ago when I first spotted it in the local paper. But, after being pounded here for posting info and quotes from my cop friends (a detective, a chief of police and a county sheriff), I decided that I'd spare myself the abuse.

Re-read the article carefully.
The stated conclusions are from local law enforcement officials who are themselves the addict-prostitutes of federal anti-drug appropriations.
How much is this about preventing crime versus enriching bureaucrats?

OMG, The Cancer society has been telling us that tobacco and nicotine are the #1 problem.
MADD has been telling us that alcohol is the #1 problem (which by any objective use of statistics, it clearly is.)
Half the METH deaths are the makers of meth who blow up in their own stills. How is that a problem?

With all of the publicity concerning the devastating effect of even one Hit on this stuff it's amazing that people are so stupid as to try it out.
Try it once and you're basically hooked for life. It's almost impossible to get off of.

Meth still No. 1 drug problem
because of the failed war on some drugs, not in spite of it.

They inconvenienced law-abiding citizens by making them sign for their cold medicine in the store while meth operations were simply shifted to Mexico. Brilliant!
