Bush Curses Hezbollah at G-8 Luncheon

It wasn't meant to be overheard. Private luncheon conversations among world leaders, picked up by a microphone, provided a rare window into both banter and substance - including President Bush cursing Hezbollah's attacks against Israel.

Bush expressed his frustration with the United Nations and his disgust with the militant Islamic group and its backers in Syria as he talked to British Prime Minister Tony Blair during the closing lunch at the Group of Eight summit.

"See the irony is that what they need to do is get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this (expletive) and it's over," Bush told Blair as he chewed on a buttered roll.

As I stated in an earlier post to this thread; IMHO the most interesting thing here is the Presidents views on what "they" (they being the UN)needs to be doing. At least that's my take on the context of what was said.

Fruit of the Spirit:

Sept. 6, 2000 | Those who fret over nastiness on the networks should take heart at the mostly dainty coverage that followed George W. Bush's calling New York Times scribe Adam Clymer a "major league asshole" in front of an unexpectedly open mike at a Labor Day rally. While everyone referenced the gaffe, most major media also provided a fig leaf. Web scribes, however, were not so kind.

And President Bush has righteously judged the situation and commented. Much to the shock and chagrin of pompous self righteous Christians.

I do recall Jesus saying something to an accusing crowd, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"...which I guess is you, right tmp02?

You might want to keep that in context. It's written as a primative verbal adjective in the Greek and in the context of what Jesus is saying, He is saying those of you without this PARTICULAR sin...those of you not guilty if this VERY crime. This was a crime of connection...and also being CAUGHT in the act of adultery meant TWO parties were involved...not just one (the woman). Where was the other party?

In the sentence of casting the stone, one witness would throw the accused from a scaffold and another witness would cast the first stone or roll a stone on top of them (if the fall from the scaffold didn't kill them).

Jesus knew none of them would have the courage to do this, especially since they were all guilty of the same sin...and he had called them out on it...remember He wrote something on the ground...probably their names or their sins...and they left starting with the oldest.

So...let us keep this in context. This by no means he who is without ANY sin.

The AP is wrong again. This is barnyard language. It is not a curse, which involks the name of God.

"I'm sorry to seem naive on this, but why does the entire world, except for the U.S., seem to hate Israel? I know it goes back to biblical times, but can anyone tell me?"

I'll try. it goes back to the old testament and two sons which were born, Jacob and Ishmael. God said Ishmael would war against Jacob. The tribes of Ishmael followed false gods which and in later times, followed Muhammed (muslims). Jacob of course was the 12 tribes of Israel. The apostle Paul in the new testament says that our wrestling is against the principalities of darkness. These principalities Paul was talking about was the devil and his minions which influence mankind and cause problems. It makes sense that Israel is hated by these principalities of darkness, as Israel was and is God's chosen people.

That is a very nice comment. Of course, if it wasn't for "pompous self righteous Christians" who believe the word of God and try to follow it in their daily lives, there would BE no President Bush. It would be the second term of President Gore if all those " pompous self righteous Christians" voted for someone else....and that is a fact.

He can say what he wants. Some people are not convicted by filthy language. I am. I am a minister. While many members of the churches in which I preach probably use filthy language during the week, they would hate it and fire me if I did. Jesus would never use language that was considered vulgar in a society. He would only use language that was good for the lifting up of those around (Eph 4:29; 5:3; Col 3:8; James 3: 4-6; 2 Peter 2:7; et al). Col 3:8 says to put away filthy communication out of your mouth...and that means obscene speech. Obscene speech is determiend by the society in which you live and what would cause damage to the cause of Christianty.

Bottom line: When you are a Christian, you live by the rule book. Col 3:8 is in the rule book. I know it's not a popular rule...and when you bring it up...you get called a " pompous self righteous Christian," but that doesn't change the fact that it is still in the rule book. It is up to each individual to decide if they want to live by the rules they claim to follow.

We all sin. That's why we need grace. That's why we need the cross.

There is a heart problem. He can't be reading his Bible every day like he claims with a mouth like that.......

As it happens, the KJV is sprinkled with salty words like piss and whore.

You are correct. A curse, in biblical definitions invokes God's name. In biblical terms, this is more along the lines of corrupt or obscene language. The Greeks called it vile conversation...aischrologia.

"Really? Where is the bible does it say you shouldn't say "shit"? Please point out the chapter and verse."

You misread the comment."

In the old testament, God Himself called the idols of false gods 'dung' or our moderns equivalent word 'shit.' Christians are held to a higher standard by the world and we should remember that - if Bush used the F word, then I would say he should remember the standard I mention above but for this word? Hmmm, don't think its a problem.

I suspect Pres Bush is carrying a mighty big cross right now, and I know Jesus died for him and his sins, so I will look the other way. I suspect Blair was not offended by Bush's blunt assessment, and since the comment was not intended for you, then let it go. YOU are way off base. While I respect your high ideals regarding your own speech, you are indeed judging others in a most un-Christian way. Move on. And before you discount my advice, consider that the Holy Spirit has prompted me to advise you, because I believe He has.
