New Orleans, LA (AHN) - The head of the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund has stepped down following the resignation of a majority of the board only days ago.
The Hurricane Katrina Charity, formed by former Presidents Bill Clinton and George H.W, Bush, has raised about $125 million. Former Executive Director Mary Ann Wyrsch said that her staying on board may slow the momentum the charity has picked up. The Bush-Clinton Fund released a statement acknowledging that Wyrsch's resignation was done in the best interest of the fund.
Wysch wrote in her resignation letter, "I am concerned about any distractions from this great record of accomplishment, and anything that would slow the momentum we have established for getting assistance to those in need. Therefore, I have determined that it is in the best interests of the Fund to step aside."
Nine members had served on a committee that was to decide which religious institutions needed the funds the most. Seven members stepped down saying their advice had been ignored and the churches who received money were never investigated.
The group had $20 million to disperse to religious institutions and those seven members said the Washington Staff not only awarded smaller chunks of money to each institution than they formerly agreed upon but they never audited each recipient to ensure it was a real church. Of that $20 million, $1.5 million has been awarded so far and the rest is supposed to be dispersed by the end of the summer.
Co-Chair Rev. William H. Grey III, former president of the United Negro College Fund, said, "I've learned in life that if people say they want your advice and then they change it, ignore it, or undermine it, then they really don't want it."
Grey and Co-Chair Bishop T.D. Jakes, Dallas megachurch pastor, both stepped down last week. Rev. Fred Lucas, presidents of Faith Center for Community Development in New York is the only one out of nine committee members who has announced that he plans to remain on the committee.
Huh? I think I'll resist commenting at this time; my K-people neighbor kids are screaming too loudly outside for me to hear myself think.
Very interesting.
Am I to assume that the other $18.5 mil was administrative costs?

The K in the thread headline.
They are waiting till the money earns enough interest to pay off the salaries and the perks.
Not to mention Bush-Clinton. Just having clinton in the name makes it sound slimey.
I was wondering when the scandal from this Clinton endeavor would show up.
