Sigh. I don't think Iraqis give a hoot about Democracy.



From where we sit in America- it may well look that way sometimes. We were talking about this earlier...the western mind..does not easily understand the middle eastern mind.

For us- the only thing we've ever known is a free society and an elected government. I can't imagine the way my mind would view "democracy" had we lived in a totalitarian country like Iraq has been for so many years, can you?

For now...freedom to an Iraqi is a very different concept than it is to us. The responsibility part will come with time.

If democracy holds, it will take a generation, before we really notice a changed mindset. I had acquaintances that grew up in Russia and immigrated here before the Soviet Union disbanded, it's interesting to see and hear the mindset of someone who has lived in a totalitarian environment compared to how most American's think.
