London-based Arabic language newspaper Al-Hayat says Israel gave Syria 72 hours to stop Hizbullahs activity, bring about release of kidnapped IDF troops. Israel will not end military activity until new situation created that will prevent Syria, Iran from using terror organizations to threaten its security, newspaper quotes Pentagon official as saying Roee Nahmias
The London-based Arabic language newspaper Al-Hayat reported Saturday that Washington has information according to which Israel gave Damascus 72 hours to stop Hizbullahs activity along the Lebanon-Israel border and bring about the release the two kidnapped IDF soldiers or it would launch an offensive with disastrous consequences.
The report said a senior Pentagon source warned that should the Arab world and international community fail in the efforts to convince
Syria to pressure Hizbullah into releasing the soldiers and halt the current escalation Israel may attack targets in the country.
Al-Hayat quoted the source as saying that the US cannot rule out the possibility of an Israeli strike in Syria, this despite the fact that the Bush administration has asked Israel to refrain from any military activity that may result in civilian casualties.
'Hizbullah made the same mistake'
The report also mentioned that President George W. Bush has repeatedly put much of the blame for the recent escalation on Syria.
It is no coincidence that the Hizbullah operation comes at a time when the international community is working to impose sanctions on Iran due to its nuclear program and settle the score with Syria by establishing an international court to try those behind the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, the Pentagon source said.
According to the source, Hizbullah made the same mistake as Hamas when it did not predict the ramifications of its actions and ignored the regional and international changes since the fall of Saddam Hussein.
The source said that Israel has indicated that it will not end its military activity until a new situation is created that will prevent Syria and Iran from using terror organizations, such as Hamas and Hizbullah, to threaten its security.
I don't care what the order is, let's just get started doing it and stop playing around.
Yeah, right. It's always that easy.
Excellent! It is inevitable now that Israel will take care of Syria.
One wonders if they may have prepositioned 1-2 nukes (perhaps here in the USA as well?) and are waiting to be attacked with conventional weapons so they can retaliate in "self defense", perhaps even via proxies. If so, they may indeed be too fanatical to realize that, instead of becoming the lions of the Middle East, they will be reduced to a smoking wreck in a cataclysm that even Dante couldn't have dreamed.
He does not want to personally die and will do everything he has to in order to save his rear end.
These people have a cultic belief system that glorifies suicide and death as a vehicle to many accolades in the afterlife. It is illogical as far as we are concerned, but to them, it's perfectly logical to commit suicide and kill a huge group of innocent people in the process. Keep in mind that the enemy has a belief system that is so off-the-wall that women with 4 or 5 little children are signing up to be suicide bombers. I don't put anything past them as they do not adhere to our type of "logic".
Notice how none of the leaders sign up for martyrdom. It is always some silly, stupid, brainwashed, young boy or poor woman. None of the leaders really believe they are promised anything for a martyr's death in the afterlife. Otherwise they would lead the way. Don't fall for the bluster. They are cowards.
And I hope we are closely coordinating to do our part of the job when the time comes.
I like how you think.
bert: The lebaneese Army will operate jointly with the IDF in the operation. Their role might be minor, but they have been invited into the fray by Saudi Arabia. The Saudi voice that is seldom heard spoke out loud and denounced Hezbollah. The Saudis have denounced Hizbollah because it is Shiite-based and a proxy for the Iranian mullahcracy. That is all. The Saudis want Israel out of Lebanon and Gaza *now*, and AFAIK haven't said anything about the alleged army of Lebanon fighting alongside Israel. The Lebanese PM has demanded a ceasefire, and has backed off his criticism of Hizbollah, no doubt under a quietly delivered death threat.
MrEdd: A big problem is that the head of this snake is in Saudi Arabia...Saudi Arabia is indeed a nest of vipers, and pays for terrorism all over the world. It is trying to build a Saudi-dominated theocracy in various countries (including this one, but that's a long term goal). But Iran has a similar plan -- an Iranian Shiia-dominated theocracy in various countries -- and Hizbollah is a creature of Iran.
bert: You are incorrect. The Saudi's have denounced Hezbollah and given the greenlight for Isreal to destroy it. They speak for all the GCC who desire a stable and strong economic region. You are incorrect. The Saudis want to destroy Israel, and have not given Israel any green light (nor does Israel need one from the 3000 corrupt princes, or care what they think). The only reason the Saudis have denounced Hizbollah is that Iran runs it. Period.
Fitzcarraldo: Basically Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and others don't want to become vassal states of Iran. Hezbollah is clearly an Iranian puppet.I agree -- although there are always Egyptians, Saudis, and Jordanians who would agree with the aims of Iran. Saudi Arabia is in a bad box right now, and my view is that an SA civil war is not too far off. That is part of the evil plan of Karl Rove of course. The Saudis do not want Iran to have the Bomb, and do not want them to succeed in Iraq. The Saudis also don't want the US to succeed in Iraq. But the Saudis have steadily lost ground in Iraq, and in the other Gulf States -- not to mention Afghanistan.
Given that Hezbollah does not wear uniforms, to accomplish that they would have to kill every adult male south of Beirut.
Then again, perhaps the Carthage option would be productive
We may be forced to kick some ass and take the gas! That would have been a much more satisfactory approach to 9/11 -- nuke 'em, plant the Flag, and let Europe and China know that the price of crude is going up.
Syria has not capacity to stop Hezbollahs activity. No more than USA troops have capacity to stop Iraqi insurgents or Israel to stop Hamas activity.
And after Syria was forced out from Lebanon such "capacity" was reduced to zero.
Zec 12:6 In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem.

Syria still has significant presence in Lebanon, although perhaps more under the radar than previously.
I join those here who opine that the target is Hezbollah. I dont think Syria will be attacked by Israel. Certainly not Iran.
