Columbia -- Making no final statement and keeping his eyes trained on the ceiling, William "Junior" Downs was put to death by lethal injection Friday for the 1999 kidnapping, rape and murder of a 6-year-old South Carolina boy.
The 39-year-old Augusta, Ga., man said he stopped Keenan O'Mailia as the boy rode his bicycle along a dirt path. Downs said he asked the boy his name, then threw him to the ground and strangled him.
Downs did not pursue any appeals after pleading guilty to the crimes in 2002. Before he was sentenced to death, he said he deserved to die for his crime.
"I think it would be disrespectful to the family and disrespectful to the whole world if you did not give me the death penalty," Downs said at the time.

Killed and RAPED a six year old boy. Surely there is a special place in hell for this creature.
Agreed. I'm glad this monster is dead. I only wish that we had the Japanese system of applying Capital Punishment.
In this case it would have been a most fitting end for this piece of excrement.

This just sounds bizarre coming from a guy who killed a raped a child. Since when do rapists care about respecting others? Bill Clinton never respected anyone - not even his own wife.
good for south carolina and the good people of that state. they do not fool around over there. check out the newest law concerning penalties for repeat child molesters, its great
And NAMBLA is left with one less member.....
We've got two back to back next week.
We don't take kindly to them telemarketers here in Texas...let that be a lesson to anyone who tries to call a Texan during dinner.
Other States are trying to absolve the death penalty, my State is putting in an express lane! - Ron White
He died too easily.
I hope the sentence is for telemarketing! We need a strong deterrent. (Only half joking).
Get on the *Do Not Call* reigistry. It sure has worked for us.
Heinous crime. Zero doubt as to the perpetrator, victim and outcome. Zero resistance from the defendant/convictee and zero confusion as to court procedures, pleas, etc. An openly stated desire to suffer the penalty and no apparent mental illness.
Still....there are plenty of people who will claim that the death penalty in this or similar cases is not justified or legally applied!
Burn in HELL, Mr. Downs.
Hopefully the start of a new trend :)
re: Do Not Call list
Oh believe me I am. But....when we moved I told the phone company that my number was to be UNLISTED AND UNPUBLISHED. The 'unpublished' part is a little-known element. Unlisted simply keeps your name out of the public phone book. Unpublished means your name/number won't go to telemarketing companies who buy different (read: expensive) directories from your 'friends' at the telco. So...we had almost complete peace even before the advent of the Do Not Call list. I roar with laughter every time I hear one of the 'Teleservices' monkeys start his claptrap about jobs, contributing to taxes/economy etc. If I extort $5 from every person in my neighborhood not to knock on their door each morning am I in business or am I a pest and a criminal?
If it's any comfort to those who think this freak died too easily for his crimes, I think that he is going to tire of being on the receiving end of hourly gang-rapes by the demons of Hell for ETERNITY. And that will be the easy part.
OK, I'll bite: How do the Japanese apply capital punishment? Or do you mean seppuku?
