Those airplanes took off using the taxiways....then the Israelis blew holes in them too....

Ahhh - so that's why they made a return raid. Been wondering about that. Thanks

I have to tell you...all of those options sound scary.

Except perhaps for the one about Israel just sitting in S. Lebanon and in part of Gaza for a while...and things calming down.

Wouldn't you think...that if that happened..it would "look like" Hezbollah, Syria, and Iran "backed down"??

At least, Hez. and Syria...with all of the tough talk this last 24 hours or so.

BTW..I heard a report a month or so ago..that really surprised me. It said that America is "down to" one mine sweeper...and it is n the Gulf...but, it only has that ONE...and this particular report said that it is a scary prospect of having just the one...with the Iranians mining that area.

Would that be because of Clinton's decrease in Defense spending? Surely, the Pentagon didn't think that they had enough...or that they wouldn't need more...it doesn't make sense.

"" Our MSM at work, dumping on Israel again.""

The MSM is an enemy of America and Israel, imho.

But I'm betting the Iranians and Syrians like their "sit back and let the surrogates die" game a bit too much to give it up just yet.

How about this possibility:

The Iranian guy is too nutty and out of control for even the Syrians?

Maybe in their own minds many in that region liked it better just sponsoring the occasional terrorist, and hating Israel, but at the same time, enjoying some of that tourism money, and a little of that culture the tourists brought with them. Lots of interesting angles to this situation.

I like your analysis. One set of wild cards you overlooked are the carrier task forces some where in the Pacific conducting 'exercises'. They could be in the Persian Gulf area relatively quickly to support the carrier currently there. I don't think it was a coincidence naval exercises of this size were planned for this summer.

You know me bud, I've been gaming the Iran/Syria end of things since before Nek lost his neck. They don't have much, but they are crazy, but we aren't asleep at the switch either.

At the very least, this looks to be an interesting week.

If the rest of the gang shows up, a recent read on Iran's TOE, west of the Zagros, would be helpful, but I'd rather not see any Coalition data posted here. Freepmail would be a better option if you know what's in the Gulf right now.

If this settles down quickly, keep everything in mind, we'll be back on the subject in early 2007 or 2008 unless Iran folds.

PS, I can't remember offhand whether SANG has 8 battalions or 8 brigades, and don't have time to look it up, so take that figure with a grain of salt.

"08:27 Witnesses: 3 rockets land in northern Golan Heights; no injuries (Army Radio)"

If so inclined, Syria could use this as casus belli. Iran to follow.

very nicely done; but i think Iran and Syria can save face and manage not to get themselves wiped off the map with a very few token SCUD missile like attacks. Iran's Imanutjob is cagey, i doubt he thinks he is in an all or nothing position.
