Greetings Freeper Canteeners, it's time for the Friday Flyby. Because of a post last weekeend from one of the Canteeners over in England I finally found a good excuse to get into the file of British aircraft that I have :-)

Tonights Flyby will be the Hawker Hurricane.

Designed in the early 1930s by Sidney Camm of Hawker Aircraft, the Hurricane was the first monoplane fighter for the RAF. With a top speed in the mid 300s and the unheard of armament of 8 .303 machine guns in the wings the Hurricane helped to lead led the RAF into WW-II. The Hurricane served throught WW-II and in all areas of operations as well. From about 1941 on it served as a fighter-bomber while the Spitfires mainly took over the fighter role.

So on with the pics...

First up tonight the mandantory head on pic. Hat tip to Dave Stewart for the pic.

Next up a fine shot of the Hurricane going "Wheels Up"

Several squadrons of Hurricanes tried thier hand at the night-fighter role during the Battle of Britian. Here is a restored Hurricane NF coming in for a landing.

An inflite pic of the Hurricane, this pic show off where the 8 .303 machine guns were located at in the wings.

Our old friend Glenn Alderton contributes this fine inflite pic to tonites Flyby.

I mentioned above theat the Hurricane were used as fighter bombers. Here is a period picture of a MkIV Hurricane outfitted with a pair of 40mm cannons under the wings. Rather handy if you are tank busting!!!

Well that's it for tonight, will be back tomorrow night with the Saturday Sortie.

Regards
