Ad Showing Troop Coffins Causes Clash of the Parties

By ANNE E. KORNBLUT, The New York Times

WASHINGTON, July 13 — In an echo of the last election cycle, political operatives are at odds over a Democratic advertisement featuring coffins coming home from war.

The advertisement, a short film posted on the Web site of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, is being attacked by Republicans as tasteless and disrespectful of American troops in Iraq.

In 2004, President Bush’s campaign released an advertisement showing a flag-draped body being removed from the site of the World Trade Center after the terrorist attack there. The shot outraged some victims’ families, who accused Mr. Bush of exploitation.

The thing I'm most disturbed by is that they don't even think it's worth the poll to begin with.

Unreal!

What's your take on this photo in a political ad critical of Republican leadership?
It's appropriate 52%
It's inappropriate 48%
Total Votes: 87,113

Freep this!

It's so low - yes, it is VERY inappropriate to use the dead to advance a cause they willingly DIED for. They're spitting on the graves of these dead men and women.

Utterly disgraceful!

Let the liberals run the ads - they are sick, mentally ill people.

If they can run those ads, then the RNC should run ads right before the election showing the WTC Towers getting hit and then show pictures of all the leading Democrats and ask, "Do you these people remember this day?"

Any one can use this iconic image of freedom, sacrifice, tragedy, and the final homecoming...

...provided that they honor and respect the ultimate sacrifice these men and women have given.

The political party which harbors Vietcong Kerry, Turban Durbin, Sen. Rotten Stalin, and other assorted chickens, traitors, and criminals, the only connection they should EVER have with our awesome military is to be escorted to prison by them.

From 50 miles. They can't be too close or become tainted by the sleaze and scum these b@$tards exude.

Republicans should fire back with pictures of 9-11 and say this is what happened after 8 years of a Democrat President.

Interesting that two of the most liberal "NEWS" sources have the inappropriate at 48%.

Republicans should fire back with pictures of 9-11 and say this is what happened after 8 years of a Democrat President.

There has been 1 Democrat president in the last 28 years. There have been four democrat presidents in the last 48 years. One of those "four" led to the 1 Democrat (12 years later) in 28 years. I believe this is partly because the American people KNOW what life under a Democrat president is like, and they are not eager to repeat it.

And consider, if you will, the "special circumstances" in those 48 years (as of 2008) of those four:

One ascended to the office with the help of (allegedly) massive voter fraud in at least one state, so much so that Richard Nixon would have had a valid case to challenge it (much more of a case than Algore had in 2000) - yet he did not;

One followed the assasination of that same president, who would probably be considered a moderate Republican in today's terms (even with a last name of Kennedy);

One followed the appointed successor to Richard Nixon not long after the end of the Vietnam war;

One campaigned as a moderate Democrat, having bashed the incumbent President (Bush 41) over breaking his "no new taxes" pledge, yet he did almost everything against his moderate leanings from the campaign, once he got in office. That is to say nothing of Monica...

That's it. The best the Left has had to offer, in 48 years.

My point is that, based on the above, when it comes time to decide for America, it has recently made the right choice, because (we) Republicans have something to run on (with some faults, of course), not just something to oppose.

I would continue to take the high road, but to not be a doormat, either. I understand the desire to want to destroy the Democrats, but there is a way to do it that won't turn off the middle.

Compromise. If they'll show a third term abortion on national television, I'm OK with them showing the coffins.

An excellent idea and worth repeating!

Those brave soldiers gave their lives so that American citizens wouldn't have to go through another 9/11. And God bless and keep them!
