Funny that NYC's Holland and Lincoln Tunnels don't have the problems this piece of crap does, and they were built, what, 50+ years ago, minus all the technology and engineering advances we have today?
Something stinks.

..it was never meant to be a tunnel

"Something stinks." The formula seems to be dig a bigass hole and throw somebody else's money in it.

I wish the timeline included who was in charge at the time (and who appointed them, etc.). I've read most of the Herald accounts but it's hard to keep it all straight.

Those NYC tunnels were drilled through granite bedrock.

I would like to see a howie carr type column where he shows how much cronyism there is on the project for example attorney general o'rielly is matt amorello's attorney
can o'reilly the prosecutor tell himself what his client matt amorello said or would he violate attorney client privilege?
plus this ones cousin works for this company this ones nephew works at this company etc etc etc

Sure sounds like a "pork barrel earmark", doesn't it?

What's this tunnel going through, U?

What's this tunnel going through, U? From what I've read, mostly mud and fill.

A number of listeners have suggested that Howie's next book be on the Big Dig.
Good point about Reilly -- I have serious doubts about what any "investigation" he runs will find. Some people think this is good for his campaign, which was in serious trouble, since neither Gabrieli nor Patrick can possibly get the kind of airtime he will. I devoutly hope it won't. (I noted with interest that Reilly went on RKO with Tod Feinberg, who called him "defensive>", but he didn't go on with Howie!)

Pride of workmanship... compare the dams we built in the 30's. 40's and 50's compared to the brand new dam that drained itself in Brazil recently and the crumbling cement in that dam.... or the contractor in San Francisco (buddy of Willie Brown, but getting top contracts because he is Hispanic and got preference due to being a "minority"-owned business -- turns out he was selling re-cycled cement to retrofit the Bay Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge and a dam for the cities water supply.... how much of this greedy, shoddy, work permeates our country because of the dems

Politicians, crooks, bad engineers, unions, and mindless voters.
I've been watching this project since it was still just a twinkle in the eye of the "All politics is local" specialist Tip O'Neal.
One of the jobs that I held years ago was directly on the path of this monstrosity.
We were discussing this craziness way back in 1983.
I'm so glad that I no longer have to work in that Sodom town.
The gay marriage activists are rookies when it comes to sticking it up the kiester next to the folks who come up with this idea, and then convinced Congress to go along and provide the the dough for it.
