A riot broke out in Orlando overnight. Police were making what seemed to be a routine arrest, but they wound up outnumbered 200 to 10.
"I don't remember something escalating to this level of violence for the last 10 to 15 years."
It looked like a simple drug bust at the Palms Apartments on Mercy Drive. However, Lieutenant Laura Houston says things started getting wild when Orlando police tried to take the suspects into custody.
"Another guy came up and started interfering with that arrest."
That man said he wouldn't let police arrest the two suspects; one of the suspects started fighting back. The chaos continued to intensify; 100 people gathered, yelling. Police fired pepper spray, but Houston says the crowd grew to about 200 people and got even fiercer.
"While they were putting the arrestees in the police cars, people in the crowd began throwing rocks and bottles at them."
One officers' car window was shattered, but the officers managed to get out. Shortly after, the Palms calmed down.
The two suspects are 27-year-old Carl Thorne and 16-year-old Nathan Sigler. They are now charged with inciting a riot.

Loyalty to clan trumps rule of law - the same thinking that has made the Middle East a hellhole.
10 police officers is all they could muster for a riot? And they left and didnt come back? Normally seeing the police pull out is the green light for an all out rampage.
Is it the fault of Bush? Or is the the insidious plan of Karl Rove to have druggies riot so that there can be a backlash among the non-druggies?
Multiculture? Balkanization? Loyalty to "The Hood"?
"Loyalty to clan trumps rule of law"
You are SO right! It happens every day here in Cincinnati. I live in the suburbs and stay there. I will not go to downtown Cincinnati under any circumstances. It is a warzone.
.....Loyalty to clan ....
Clan Sigler?

This is the logical outcome when the justice system coddles criminals. These people no longer fear the police or jail time. Very revealing that the police "managed to escape" instead of escalating the arrests by bringing in more officers to get things under control. A lawless mob watching police run in the face of confrontation sets a poor precedent for maintaining order. Orlando will get what they deserve. The inmates are now running the asylum
10 cops, and they left? i guess that the difference between florida and texas. all it takes there is one ranger ("only one riot isn't there?")
Where's FEMA?!
Good grief man, how do you expect people to watch a 10 to 15 year old TV set? It's long past time for a couple of new ones.
IMO, when things get to this level, you start shooting the rock and bottle throwers. It very well might mean the difference between life and death.
Clan of the cave bear !
Crap area of town. Not surprised. Gotta drive through it to get to the gun show :-)
When those silly cops arrested the dope dealers, the rest of the crowd realized their "source" was being removed so they had the right to riot against the cops. Maybe they need the whole police force there the next time. It is hard to believe they want to enforce the law, isn't it?
Amen! Shoot the first one or two interfering with an arrest dead on the spot and watch the riot dissolve.
How true. In fact, arrest often confers a special status on them, along with bragging rights. At worst, being arrested is only a minor inconvenience.
Palms Apartments on Mercy Drive
Lovely area of Orange County /s.
Funny, nothing on local stations. Riot control?
