Declaring he absolutely believes the truth of his discredited story based on forged memos, about President Bush's National Guard record, on Wednesday's Larry King Live on CNN Dan Rather contended that we had a lot, a lot of corroboration, of what we broadcast about President Bush's military record. It wasn't just the documents. Rather then attacked those who dared to expose his misdeeds: It's a very old technique used, that when those who don't like what you're reporting believe it can be hurtful, then they look for the weakest spot and attack it, which is fair enough. It's a diversionary technique."

A follow-up: Although he still contends that a Chicago cab driver held him captive on a wild ride at high speed, following a dispute over addresses last fall, the CBS correspondent Dan Rather says he'd rather drop the whole thing. Mr. Rather said in a statement Thursday night that he was dropping disorderly conduct charges against Eugene Phillips, the taxi driver, because of a ''mounting schedule of reporting assignments,'' which would conflict with his pressing the case.

Dan Rather worships Fidel Castro and has had a crush on Bill Clinton for a long time. He is neither an icon nor an idol - he is a blubbering idiot condemned by his own feeble rationalizations.
He seems to run into that sort of thing at a rather high rate for one person.
