At the invitation of Chancellor Angela Merkel, President Bush traveled to northeastern Germany in advance of his participation in the G-8 Summit in St. Petersburg, Russia. Chancellor Merkel hosted President Bush today in the towns of Stralsund and Trinwillershagen, which are in the Chancellor's electoral constituency. The visit, which took place in what had been communist East Germany, underscores our two nations' commitment to advancing freedom and prosperity, and to strengthening the transatlantic partnership.
The President and the Chancellor took part in a joint press conference in the Straslund Town Hall, and the President also spoke in the historic market square. The First Lady visited a Kinderbibliothek (Children's Library) and toured Straslund City Archives and Baroque library, and attended a luncheon.
The First Couple visited St. Nikolai Church and toured it with Pastor Peter Neumann, and later traveled to the village of Trinwillershagen on the German Baltic Sea for a wild pig barbecue.
In tumultuous times it is reassuring to have a President who stands firm on principle and in strength of conviction and courage. Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on a MONSTER Dose!
Hitting the dump button on ya fella.
Wonderful pictures! Glad to see so many German people happy to see Bush and Laura. Makes me proud!
Thanks...that was fast...
Receiving the traditional gift of herring!
Why do I think that there are certain Americans that do NOT appreciate it when President Bush gives a speech that says he is bringing a message from the American people? LOL
BTW...I don't know if any of you guys here on Dose have visited DUmmieland today...but, there is a particularly nasty thread about Laura on it...
I didn't bring it...but it was about Laura's looks...I couldn't even finish looking for what I was seeking, which was their reaction to Plame/Wilson filing that lawsuit.
hanging out???? are you for real...this has been planned for a year and he is meeting the G-8, for crying out loud!!
Oh, no, Kate! Are you in Arizona? There are serial killers in a town in that state and we were talking about that at dinner tonight.
Do you have a dog? Good locks on the doors? I'd be horribly frightened too.
Ohio! I am so geeked. My whole family got to be present for Vice President Cheney's troop rally on Monday at Selfridge Air National Guard Base. We got to see him pin one of our own with a Purple Heart. I never thought I would see such a day.
We all got to get handshakes! VP Cheney even asked my 9-year old son his name.
The hangar was filled with Navy, Air Force, Army, Marines and Border Patrol personnel. There was an F-16, a Coast Guard Helicopter,an Army Chinook helicopter, a C-130 and a KC-135 on display showing what an awesome joint use base we are.
His speech was both a thank you and another slam at the media revealing classified information.
We got some photographs and, if I can reeducate myself on posting pics, I will post them!
She's cracking him up. I think I like her.
Saying good-bye.......
Thanks for your work, Ohio! Can't wait to see the monster dose. What fun!
That is simply thrilling. I really hope you can get the picture thing working. How really neat.
When we roast a whole pig for family reunions, we take the head off, don't think i like eatting something that's looking at you.
At the luncheon......
At the library....
At the Jewish memorial to Kristallnacht (The night of broken glass).....
At the museum......
