A Day in the Life of President Bush and Laura (overseas) - 7.13.06

At the invitation of Chancellor Angela Merkel, President Bush traveled to northeastern Germany in advance of his participation in the G-8 Summit in St. Petersburg, Russia. Chancellor Merkel hosted President Bush today in the towns of Stralsund and Trinwillershagen, which are in the Chancellor's electoral constituency. The visit, which took place in what had been communist East Germany, underscores our two nations' commitment to advancing freedom and prosperity, and to strengthening the transatlantic partnership.

The President and the Chancellor took part in a joint press conference in the Straslund Town Hall, and the President also spoke in the historic market square. The First Lady visited a Kinderbibliothek (Children's Library) and toured Straslund City Archives and Baroque library, and attended a luncheon.

The First Couple visited St. Nikolai Church and toured it with Pastor Peter Neumann, and later traveled to the village of Trinwillershagen on the German Baltic Sea for a wild pig barbecue.

In tumultuous times it is reassuring to have a President who stands firm on principle and in strength of conviction and courage. Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on a MONSTER Dose!

We understand that Merkel´s husband, a Professor for physics, wouldn´t want to visit a children´s library, etc. It was a surprise that he came with his wife at all, since he even missed the swear-in ceremony in the German parliament of the Chancellor.

Btw, why and how have you flown one Marine One to Germany? Does the WH that all the time? I mean, it´s not a legal problem, because we´re both in NATO - the Chancellor could also use German military vehicles when visiting Washington, but it´s a bit strange, I think.

Can be that he was tired. This more familiar trip to Germany prior the G8 summit was meant to give the President a rest to get rid of the jetlag, so that he can fully concentrate on the summit. As a positive side-effect, it intensified the good relations between him and Chancellor Merkel. The President got up at 4.30 am local time, and he went by bike through nearby woods twice that day.

Ohio...wow what great pictures. Being of German descent I especially enjoyed seeing pictures of the architecture in Germany (besides the man standing in front of the buildings::wink::)

It's interesting that Germany has a female leader I thought europeans were more on the chauvanist side (no offense to any europeans)

Our President looks like he is having a great time as is Laura. He sure can charm folks can't he?

It just the syntax may be. In German verbs at the end of the sentence are put.

LOL But she may have actually said something funny.

The President may be tired in part because the G8 summit is being used to attempt to coerce the US to comply with the tax policies that the other members "enjoy".

Intolerance includes the inability to be happy for someone else.

Did the barbecue sauce help? Or did it taste really strong?

I'm glad Merkel's husband got to meet our President. He may change his mind about conservative politics.

I believe Marine One accompanies AF1 on trips like this, so that the shorter trips within the country can be taken by helicopter and not that massive jet.

I don't know for sure, but the President was probably going to his next destination by helicopter and leaving the area altogether.

They were riding together in a limo in town. Does that make sense?

It doesn't matter who they are, or what they think prior to meeting him...........if they're honest and open, they love the man when they actually see him.

That's why trips like this are so important. The lies that everyone loved xlinton and they hate Bush are exposed.

I think the President is ready to do battle now.

People energize him, and he always does what he thinks is right.

I'm looking forward to this summit.

Is the helicopter used in Germany one that is at one of the American bases out there?

Not likely.

Any helicopter used that the President travels in is called Marine One (actually there are more than one in the U.S. too).

My guess (though I don't know) is that it's from a military base in Germany.

Anyone who knows, feel free to correct me.
