At the invitation of Chancellor Angela Merkel, President Bush traveled to northeastern Germany in advance of his participation in the G-8 Summit in St. Petersburg, Russia. Chancellor Merkel hosted President Bush today in the towns of Stralsund and Trinwillershagen, which are in the Chancellor's electoral constituency. The visit, which took place in what had been communist East Germany, underscores our two nations' commitment to advancing freedom and prosperity, and to strengthening the transatlantic partnership.
The President and the Chancellor took part in a joint press conference in the Straslund Town Hall, and the President also spoke in the historic market square. The First Lady visited a Kinderbibliothek (Children's Library) and toured Straslund City Archives and Baroque library, and attended a luncheon.
The First Couple visited St. Nikolai Church and toured it with Pastor Peter Neumann, and later traveled to the village of Trinwillershagen on the German Baltic Sea for a wild pig barbecue.
In tumultuous times it is reassuring to have a President who stands firm on principle and in strength of conviction and courage. Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on a MONSTER Dose!
My hubby shot some turkeys once, with a cell phone camera!
I must be weird because I love pickled herring as well.
I also love roll mops
One of the shooters is also kiling animals, so I wouldn't get a dog for that reason. This person is not waliking in, just shooting from the street.
How dreadful
We'll be taking her to Minnesota (where her big brother is) instead of California.
Not so fun to visit her there!!
But I'd love to give you our rain!! I wish we COULD share.
East German troops with rifles came through the cars and checked our passports.
They pulled that twice. After giving back our passports, they collected them again.
Wasn't St. Thomas Kirche wonderful to see.

I missed that but I did not have the sound very loud
We sang a Bach motet for the people, and then were told to turn around and view the Bach grave.
I started to weep. Nothing has ever been quite so moving as that.

The Secret Service are just as dedicated with the Vice President, even at a military base.
