At the invitation of Chancellor Angela Merkel, President Bush traveled to northeastern Germany in advance of his participation in the G-8 Summit in St. Petersburg, Russia. Chancellor Merkel hosted President Bush today in the towns of Stralsund and Trinwillershagen, which are in the Chancellor's electoral constituency. The visit, which took place in what had been communist East Germany, underscores our two nations' commitment to advancing freedom and prosperity, and to strengthening the transatlantic partnership.
The President and the Chancellor took part in a joint press conference in the Straslund Town Hall, and the President also spoke in the historic market square. The First Lady visited a Kinderbibliothek (Children's Library) and toured Straslund City Archives and Baroque library, and attended a luncheon.
The First Couple visited St. Nikolai Church and toured it with Pastor Peter Neumann, and later traveled to the village of Trinwillershagen on the German Baltic Sea for a wild pig barbecue.
In tumultuous times it is reassuring to have a President who stands firm on principle and in strength of conviction and courage. Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on a MONSTER Dose!
Beautiful photos.
I think the President makes everyone so comfortable that they feel like family around him.
fantastic find, once again!
We were right up front, got there the earliest possible time. Made for a long wait, but worth it.
My work keeps me VERY busy. I thought last year was hectic, but things haven't slowed down a bit! I don't expect them to anytime soon, especially after the news of the last couple days....sigh.
I'm taking off tomorrow to get things ready for my daughter's High School graduation party on Saturday, thus... time to enjoy my favorite thread!
Sad news re: that Mom drowning!
Bless her sweet good Mamma heart for giving all
to save her child...
I just discovered another informative and FUN article:
HOW CAN YOU TOP A VISIT BY ABBA? JUST INVITE THE PRESIDENT AND KILL A BOAR
From Roger Boyes in Trinwillershagen
OLAF MICHEEL hurled his hunting rifle into a muddy 4x4 and jumped triumphantly on to the bonnet, dried blood still on his hands.
The swagger was understandable: he had just shot the 30kg (66lb) wild boar that will be dished up in his courtyard today to the most powerful man in the world.
You can read the rest of the article here: [Note: The article includes a GREAT photo of Micheel and his boar!]

Night all!
Not a smile on anyone's face the entire time we were behind the Iron Curtain.
What a thrilling thing Reagan/Thatcher/the Pope, and the prayers of a lot of Christians accomplished!
LOL! Sweet dreams!
Thanks for the GREAT article, Deb!
God must have a whole lot of confidence in George W. Bush............just like he did in Lincoln. No other Presidents have gone through more.
Wonderful dose tonite. The BBQ pictures are just like looking at family photos. Speaking of BBQ, I've finally found a store bought sauce that is as close to my favorite BBQ place as you can get. The sauce is Sweet Baby Ray's hickory and brown sugar, just the right zing and sweet to it!
Me too. May the Lord bring them safely home!
How sad.
Hi Kitkat! It's good to be here for a change. I'm normally long in bed by now. I do peek in from time to time. I miss everybody! It's been good to see so many folks picking up the posting duties, even from across the pond! Does the Warrior Princess ever check in anymore? Bet she had no idea what she was starting all those years ago.
Did you catch my little Wizard of Oz thing?
What a thrill! I am SO glad you got to participate in such a wonderful event!
That's so tragic - and beautiful, too. A mother's love is very powerful, as we well know. May God bless the mother with an instant ride to heaven.
The recreation centre of the former Red Banner collective farm where the barbecue will be held is concrete and charmless.
I did notice that the surroundings were rather unusual.
its just the place to take Georgie,
I can't believe he said that!
I agree with photoshopping the baby to look like algor. :)
Maybe I weird or morbid but I have always preferred to see what I am eating.
Or maybe because of my father being in the fish trade I got used to seeing whole fish so from a young age was use to eating Whitebait, sprats and prawns with the heads on.
I also prefer to eat meat on the bone I find it more tasty.
Maybe I am just blood thirsty LOL
