City residents unhappy with the way President George W. Bush is leading the country may have the opportunity to vote for his impeachment in November.
Such a vote, which a group of community activists is seeking to put on the Santa Cruz ballot Nov. 7, would do nothing to actually remove the president from office. Instead, supporters say it would be something more than an opinion poll that would send a message to Washington, D.C.
"He's has broken so many laws, and he doesn't seem to take the laws seriously," said Sherry Conable, a member of Santa Cruz Peace Coalition, one of the local groups organizing the ballot initiative. "He's spied on American people without authorization; he's ignored the Geneva Conventions and the outting of Valerie Plame all of these things are illegal."
Conable and others are asking the City Council to put a measure on the November ballot that calls for Congress to begin an immediate investigation into alleged impeachable offenses by the president.
Similar measures are already slated for ballots in Berkeley and communities in Wisconsin and Vermont.

One would naturally assume she is speaking of William Jefferson Clinton.
Isn't UC-Santa Cruz the school of doped out stoners who voted to change their team name from "Sea Lions" to "Banana Slugs"?
Bright group of people they got there. Must be something in the water.
This crap is getting very old and extremely tiresome.
I vote to give Santa Cruz back to Mexico.
They just repeat these lines, but if you call them on it...ask them to give examples...they just repeat the line. I've never seen anything like it in my life. I've lost some liberal friends because I just can't see being friends with people who have no reasoning skills. If there was ever a clear example of mind-numbed robots, it's them.
"He's has broken so many laws, and he doesn't seem to take the laws seriously"
Name one bimbo.
They could also vote to exclude themselves from federal and state taxes, but that would also be a stupid waste of time.
We fought back a similar effort in our little town here in the mountains of Colorado. Despite all the nut job liberals up here, the town board actually did the right thing and voted down a similar resolution.
"Look at us! We're Important! Hey! Hey! My opinion MEEeeeeeeans something! Hey!"
The peaceniks tried this in Wisconsin last year. 12,000 (Wisconsin population is 5.5 Million) people voted to bring the troops home now.
The troops aren't home now, it didn't mean squat, and they wasted a lot of taxpayer dollars at the local level to do it.
*Rolleyes*
They also will be voting to repeal the law of gravity.
No, but seriously, folks....
Yes, isn't it ironic that the same people who flaunt almost every law there is, including and especially the laws of decency, accuse someone else of lawbreaking?
Mr. Clinton was, in fact, impeached.
It's been well over thirty years since I've been in Santa Cruz, and frankly, the people there were always a little odd--but these days, I have to wonder if someone's put something in their water.
"Santa Cruz residents could vote to Impeach Bush"
That's exactly like a pack of barking mad dogs voting to impeach President Bush.
Liberals, perpetually stuck on stupid.
