Reports coming in about IAF striking Beruit airport, if this is confirmed this is another sizable escalation. I think this article ought to be pinned.
I assess China the same way I do Clinton. No illusions about their nobility, but a realistic assessment of their motives. Clinton doesn't want to get rid of interns, because there'd be no one left for him to ... well, choose your own verb here.
China's leadership doesn't want to get rid of the US, or alienate it too much, because they'd have no market to sell to so they could maintain double-digit annual economic growth and keep their own people from slitting their throats. Tienanmen was 17 years ago. The ChiComs couldn't cut off information then, and it'd be much more difficult now.
One of my favorite characters in history is Gen. Dietrich von Choltidz. He was the Nazi general in charge of the occupation of Paris. He had charges wired throughout the city, from the Louvre to the Eiffel Tower. When the order came to destroy Paris, he refused. He surrendered the city to the Allies rather than destroy it.
Cholditz fled, was captured by the Nazis and imprisoned as a traitor. When the Reich fell., he was captured and imprisoned by the Allies as a Nazi. Dude couldn't win for losing; he got no love from either side. He might have been a worthless a----le for most of his life, but in that moment he made the right call and was ruthlessly punished for it.
But because he made that choice, priceless works of art survived. Works that have outlived Churchill. Roosevelt and Stalin. Works that will outlive you and me.
If you have a glass in hand, raise it to Dietrich von Choltidz. Yes, he did great wrongs, but he found it in himself to do a great right at a crucial moment. What is Christianity without the hope of redemption? What is the journey without the revelation on the road to Damascus?
Wow.
I'm also a huge fan. Let the fighter jocks mock all they want, but the A-10 gets the damn job done,
In the early days of the Iraq war, a female pilot made a run over Fallujah. She got hit by AAA and came in with an aircraft with more holes than a block of swiss cheese. She kept her cool, brought it in safe and was ready on the line the next morning.
Thanks FR for being here tonight to give me the news. I'm off to catch a nap and hoping I don't miss much while I slumber.
Thanks again!
War is something to be glad you missed. There will be peace someday when Jesus returns, until then there will be constant struggles all over the world.
We've had one since Nixon was in office.
I saw that interview on TV. That was a fantastic story about the toughness of the A10 and the pilot. Our women with an A10 against a column of their men in tanks-no match.
Her name is KC, short for "Killer Chick" ... she's a looker too.
Not likely. Stalin had killed off (literally) all of the senior military leadership and everyone knew it. The USSR in 1939 was a paper tiger.
The Germans may not have known that, but otherwise you are absolutely correct.
I don't think there exists any truly independent Lebanese state. Prior to Syrian aggression Beirut was the Paris of the Middle East, worldly, cosmopolitan, tolerant, pleasant. The Syrians ruined Lebanon because Lebanonese were indifferent to Israel.
What does "pinned" mean?
I was doubting Israel would be serious....but with this strike and the naval blockade.....I've had a change of heart.....the gloves are off.
The President (on Fox at a news conference with Merkel) just said that "the Lebanese people have democratic aspirations which Hezbollah is undermining, and Syria needs to be held to account."
Wrong. If there is one, what's in it and when was it approved by Congress?
