Rainbow Family leaves; clean-up begins ( environmentalists destroy environment )

Biggest concern is human and dog waste contained in a trench, Forest Service says...

Between 300 and 500 people remain in Big Red Park this week after the mass exodus of people from the Rainbow Gathering in Medicine Bow/Routt County National Forest.

The Forest Service is working with these people this week to develop the environmental rehabilitation process, after an estimated 15,000 people attended the annual event.

So far, approximately 600 citations have been distributed by the Forest Service for camping and parking violations.

The Forest Service’s biggest concern regarding the rehabilitation is the human and dog waste, which is contained in deep trenches in designated areas throughout the 2-miles-wide, 4-miles-long area of impacted land, Vogel said.

Vogel has no reports of abandoned animals at this time, though the Forest Service is expecting to find some.

The hospital reports roughly 75 patients ...

Other problems :

• There was an initial outbreak of the parvovirus early in the week of the gathering in dozens of dogs, which the Routt County Humane Society addressed with $800 and 200 doses of vaccine.

• The Forest Service’s incident-management team will be costly, though no figures can be estimated at this time

They may be crunchy, but they are not crunchy cons.

Go to any rock show and you'll see filth and litter generation that is mind boggling. Contrast that to events conservatives attend, no comparison.

You speak the truth - We attend the 4-day Creation West christian concert in central Washington almost every year - camp on the grounds and all. Never had a problem with litter or disrepecting the environment. BEAUTIFUL outdoor concert venue in the Columbia River Gorge, I must add. I surely would hate to see what it's like during some hippie-fest, though.....

Well the worst of the enviro-hippies is the "know-it-all, first-semester hippies."

Did you ever go to the Sardine Factory? I would have loved to have gone there in the day.

I guess their thought processes just come out the same way they went in.

But then again, that really constitutes two thoughts in a row. Utterly unfair of me to put Democrats, Progressives and liberals to such terrible lengths, but it's for the children, you see.

My son was three at the time; didn't go many places.

Took tons of pics, though.

This is a big part of the problem. The Rainbows don't PAY THEIR WAY. They want other people to do it for them.

They want to worship Gaia wherever darn well they want to, then want to leave the costs behind them. Some will help with the rehabilitation, but the bill has to be eaten.

In 1997 I attended the Promise Keepers event on the Washington D.C. Mall. There must have been over 1 million of us. When we left at the end of the day, so did our trash. The next day on the local news, the media couldn't get over how much cleaner the grounds were compared to a July 4th event.

Cool! That's a drink that keeps on giving. Giardia is a nasty protozoan that will infect hippies and their dogs. I can just visualize the trip home in the VW Microbus!

Same here in the Kingdome that year when Promise Keepers had a huge event. Not only did they leave it cleaner than when they arrived, the local propogandists couldn't belive so many folks would attend. It was a monster event.
