Bush's Shift: Being Patient With Foes (Wm Kristol call Bush policy "Clintonian")
New York Times ^ | July 9 06 | David Sanger

Posted on 07/11/2006 9:34:46 PM PDT by churchillbuff

"We'll be deliberate, yet time is not on our side," [Bush] said in one of the most-quoted passages of what became the signature speech of his administration. "I will not wait on events, while dangers gather."...

Yet to some conservatives who backed Mr. Bush's decision in Iraq, "standing by and waiting" is the essence of Mr. Bush's current strategy.

Nicholas Eberstadt of the American Enterprise Institute wrote in The Wall Street Journal after North Korea's missile tests last week that North Korea had achieved more "strategic successes" under the Bush administration than it had under President Clinton.

"Apparently unwilling to move against North Korea's nuclear challenges by itself, and evidently incapable of fashioning a practical response involving allies and others, the Bush administration's response to Pyongyang's atomic provocations is today principally characterized by renewed calls for additional rounds of toothless conference diplomacy," he wrote.

This weekend in The Weekly Standard, William Kristol, another prominent conservative voice, wrote: "The red lines, pink lines, and mauve lines of U.S. foreign policy seem increasingly to be written in erasable ink. What was 'unacceptable' to President Bush a week ago (a North Korean missile launch) has been accepted." He called the current policy "Clintonian."

Oh, please. Nicholas Eberstadt has the IQ of a turnip. In 1998, our President was Clinton. In that year North Korea lofted a missile 2,000km.

Today, North Korea is surrounded by U.S. and Japanese Aegis ships with some 60 anti-missile interceptors...plus dozens of land-based PAC-3 anti-missiles...plus THEL...plus our Air Born Laser (potentially)...plus our homeland defense land-based National Missile Defenses (19 missile interceptors, 18 in Alaska and California plus 1 "test" missile in Alabama).

Under President Clinton, North Korea managed 2,000 km's. Under President Bush, North Korea launched missiles for fewer than 600 km's...yet turnip-brain wants to claim that North Korea is enjoying more success now under President Bush than back in 1998 under President Clinton when Madeline Albright and her anti-nuclear leftists were gleefully offering to build a free nuclear reactor for North Korea in North Korea.

Who cares what that pro illegal immigration dweeb wrote.

He is no better than "reconquista" George. However, he slipped into the truth here. George is acting like a wimp....shades of daddy.

Bill Kristol is a McCain fan and spends much time biting Bush's ankles. He is like a pesky flea, without the charm.

Kristol's off base. W took on NK with his Axis of Evil, then turned up the heat, got the 'neighbors' enlisted, got Star wars going, and now is in a huddle with Japan, who is talking tough.

Quite a lot accomplished, with his attention also on Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran.

Kristol, IMO, is one cheap consistent backstabber, bashing his parties leader. No different than Pinch consistently trying to take down the country.

Totally agree. NK is a basket case, and we are going to need Japan to counter China in the coming years. W's foreign policy has been brilliant so far and in 20 years he will go down as another Reagan.

This is a thread about Mr. Snow. Unless you can stay on topic, stay off this thread. And the same goes for everybody else. We will start suspending anybody and everybody who addresses Illegal Immigration where it is irrelevant.

Keep On Topic!
