Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele, the likely Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, affirmed his allegiance to Roman Catholic teachings yesterday as he addressed a conference of Catholic families at the Baltimore Convention Center.
"You will find that you cannot divorce your faith from your public service," Steele said, as the audience, primarily composed of parents who home-school their children, applauded. "There can be no conflict between God's will and my duty as a public servant."
Steele, who spent three years in the early 1980s in an Augustinian monastery, has stated publicly that, unlike Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr., he opposes abortion and the death penalty. Although he has marched in anti-abortion demonstrations, Steele has not openly lobbied to change the state's abortion laws while in office.

I didn't know that Steele homeschooled his children. I also didn't know that Catholics homeschooled.
You really do learn something new every day.
I think it would be beneficial to the nation to have a homeschooling parent in the U.S. Senate.
Santorum used to homeschool his kids.
In MT, we could have had a homschooling Senator in Bob Keenan. Why the MT GOP stayed with Burns is beyond me.
"Why the MT GOP stayed with Burns is beyond me."
They chose someone they had heard of over someone they hadn't heard of. Bob Keenan never establihsed any kind of name I.D. And it helps that no charges have been brought against Burns yet.
It's they "yet" part that worries me.
I think it would be awesome for the real Man Of Steele to be in the Senate.
Finally, a Catholic who is not a Mario CUUUUUUmo catholic.
Thanks for the link.
HOLY S**T!!!!
No, that never occured to me!
And I don't expect it to show up in Steele's television commercials.
Geeeze ... I hope he didn't pick up any gustatory habits from ol' Mikey. Politicians will talk you ear off ... I hope he wouldn't take it any farther than that.
Well maybe he'll be a good Christian and follow Evander Holyfield's example and turn the other cheek.
I wish you well.
Hopefully, you live in Maryland and are supporting Steele.
And I didn't realize that non-catholics were not aware that catholics homeschool their children. I'll let them explain it to you :-)

Well, yes, but his sister is also a doctor (pediatrician, I think). She had a severe lapse of judgment, but that isn't Michael's fault.
This is where the opponents get their "dirt" on him. He went to law school, but never took the bar exam in MD. When his sister was going through the divorce, he gave her some advice. That was translated by his opponents as "practicing law without a license", rather than a brother being concerned about his sister.
I was glad to hear that this was the worst they could dig up.
Another Catholic homeschooling source< Catholic Heritage Curricula--great phonics program.

I don't think so. I saw an interview on TV, and Michael Steele was enthusiastic about having Mike Tyson campaign for him.
Kind of forced into it by the Democrats:
