Durbin says Guantanamo should be closed by end of 2006 AP
July 11, 2006 - Senator Dick Durbin said today the United States should immediately begin phasing out operations at its detention facilities on the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba. The Illinois Democrat just returned from a fact-finding trip to the base.
Durbin says the goal should be to close the prison camp by the end of 2006.
He says despite the best efforts of American troops, Guantanamo has become a powerful, negative symbol around the world for failures of the Bush administration.
Durbin spoke on the same day the Bush administration said all Guantanamo detainees are entitled to protections under the Geneva Conventions.

In response, the Pentagon should begin building a new wing at Guantanamo, then name it after Durbin.
And imprison Durbin there for his treason.

I can think of lots of places in Illinois that'd be suitable for a new detention facility.
Then we'll see how the good people of Illinois feel about Dick Durbin.

This is absolutely THE BEST LINE OF BS today. There is no way you could convince me that Durbin had/has any interest in the facts concerning GITMO.
