BOB NOVAK, My Leak Case Testimony: 'I learned Valerie Plame's name from Joe Wilson's entry in 'Who's Who in America'... MORE Published reports that I took the Fifth Amendment, made a plea bargain with the prosecutors or was a prosecutorial target were all untrue... MORE... My primary source has not come forward to identify himself... Bill Harlow, the CIA public information officer who was my CIA source for the column confirming Mrs. Wilson's identity. I learned Valerie Plame's name from Joe Wilson's entry in 'Who's Who in America'... I answered questions using the names of Rove, Harlow and my primary source... I considered his wife's role in initiating Wilson's mission, later confirmed by the Senate Intelligence Committee, to be a previously undisclosed part of an important news story. I reported it on that basis.

After seeing that black and white photo of the Wilsons in Time magazine, I think it's unlikely that either one of them is capable of plotting the destruction of a sitting president and the nullification of a legitimate election which is what was attempted by this Wilson-to-Niger/covert-agent-Plame-revealed.

There is a cabal of media, political party operatives, Clinton hold-overs in sensitive areas of intelligence agencies. None of our allies trusts these agencies.

I don't think foreign/unfriendlies can be left out of the mix, and not just Islamic unfriendlies. Every day the French media and pols are trying to suppress information about the machinations of French pols/moneymen/military/intelligence (particularly, industrial spying) --- it's a mare's nest at the Palace.

Does anyone have that creepy photo of old Joe looking befuddled and Valerie in pajamas and bunny slippers looking distraught? Two drama queens.

There is so much more to this than the media dimwits can even grasp. Chris Matthews' take on events has more to do with his juvenile devotion to the screenplay for "The Godfather," with him as Michael, than to any facts he has dug up on his own.

That is one of the more cheering aspects of our political culture to our enemies. The undeviating course the media takes to contain and suppress what is really going on.

I agree that the Wilson/Plame were most likely somebody's operatives. There was a world wide conspiracy to save Saddam and there appears to have been no rock left unturned in order to accomplish that goal.

Fundamental to that goal was the destruction of President Bush and his determination to stop these terrorists before they set up permanent shop here in this nation and that liberal world order as established under Clintonism..... equalize all nations, and 'nuclear' was their method of equalization.

I checked out CQ - good information. Interesting how the most important fact in Novak's article is overlooked by the media. I agree that wilson/plame aren't capable but others used them to take the opportunity to attempt to smear this administration. It is still going on, and the spinning is intense. Wilson/plame made out okay, but in my opinion we might be seeing the beginnings of the biggest backfire in politics. The next election is right around the corner.

The living must be good that fitz stayed on the dole this long for nothing.

Look how the Washington Post tried to create controversy:

Novak said he and Rove had differing recollections of what happened when he asked about Plame. Novak recalls Rove saying, "Oh, you know that, too?" Rove, according to Corallo, has said he responded, "I've heard that, too.

This is a distinction without a difference, imo.

Just revisited the DU thread that Purrcival linked to yesterday. The DU'ers are still in denial. One believes Cheney is the unnamed source, even though Novak clearly states his source was not in the WH nor a political operative. They're cherry picking from the story to back up their delusions.

Well then Fox News is going to look REALLY stupid if he does NOT reveal his primary source.

WHY would Joe Wilson say he was sent by the VP's office to go to Niger to look for Yellowcake buyers, which is a HUGE responsibility and a feather in his cap to be asked, and then turn around and WRITE an article that says he just sipped tea for the week?? That does NOT compute.

He is so self aggrandizing that he should have written the story like he was Perry Mason and Dick Tracy, instead, he wrote about himself like he was Dagwood Bumstead....just doing the LEAST he could get by with.

Since what he wrote made him look like a foolish Inspector Clouseau, then he MUST have done things that he was trying to hide by making himself out to be a gold bricker. If he DID only sit at the hotel and drink tea, then why did he write that when he KNEW it would make him sound like he did an incompetent job. What did he ACTUALLY do in Niger....something very bad and against our country I'm betting.

One more thought. Why would MSNBC ride the dying horse of Matthews for so long when his primary objective has been the non-story of plamegate? With just 360,000 viewers, wouldn't a suffering organization bite the bullet and shake things up? All I see is a general re-re-resurfacing of the rotor instead of a replacement knowing that it is below spec.

I think the front runner for Novak's "primary source" is definitely Richard Armitage, former deputy to Colin Powell at State...... I very much doubt he is Joe Wilson's "friend in the street" who happened to bump into Novak - though that whole story is no more credible than anything else that comes out of lyin' Joe Wilson. Novak says he only heard about Wilson's unnamed wife and got the name "Valerie Pflame" from the "Who's Who" entry written by..... JOE WILSON!! So once anyone had reason to be looking for the identity of Joe's deep undercover wife, he conveniently provided her maiden name (and her professional name when she wasn't so deep undercover, ha ha) to the world in the most public venue of "Who's Who"........

There is no truth in the truthout story. It was a fabrication and nonsense. Fitz was probably trying to snare Rove, yes, but the two things are apples and oranges and you are making quite a reach.

REALLY STUPID does not matter. BIG RATINGS are all that matter.

How about Bill O'Reilly. They asked him if he would like to have big ratings and be thought to be really stupid... or ... They never got to what came after the OR.. O'Reilly took the first choice.

Why would MSNBC ride the dying horse of Matthews for so long when his primary objective has been the non-story of plamegate?

Because the liberals in washington D.C watch him and talk about him all the time. Matthews is a liberal TV Hero.

The MSNBC management knows that Matthews is a DC insider's hit. They keep thinking that if they run him long enough the rest of the country will eventually tune in.

I think it is more likely that Wilson suggested to his wife him going rather than her asking him.

That's my point. As someone who has spent 36 years in the USG, I am fairly certain that this was a boondoogle. I have seen similar incidents before. Depending on your position, you can create a phony requirement as subterfuge to get the USG to pay for something you want. Wilson/Plame had every motivation to do so given Wilson's business interests, their increased financial obligations of a new, expensive home, and Wilson's drastically reduced income from his retirement.

I agree with you. Armitage is the most likely. I am sure that once the NYT article came out, the word went out from the WH to the State Department asking who the hell was this pissant former Ambassador. Armitage, as Powell's deputy, became the point man. Once he recieved some background about Wilson from the bureaucracy, he let the WH know and probably Novak, inadvertant or not. It was key to let people know that the VP and the WH did not have anything to do with sending Wilson and that they were not aware of his report.

The big mistake the WH did was allowing Tenet to issue his press release on July 11, 2003 saying that including the 16 words in the STOU address was a "mistake" despite the fact they were factually correct. It gave some credence to Wilson's phony story.
