BOB NOVAK, My Leak Case Testimony: 'I learned Valerie Plame's name from Joe Wilson's entry in 'Who's Who in America'... MORE Published reports that I took the Fifth Amendment, made a plea bargain with the prosecutors or was a prosecutorial target were all untrue... MORE... My primary source has not come forward to identify himself... Bill Harlow, the CIA public information officer who was my CIA source for the column confirming Mrs. Wilson's identity. I learned Valerie Plame's name from Joe Wilson's entry in 'Who's Who in America'... I answered questions using the names of Rove, Harlow and my primary source... I considered his wife's role in initiating Wilson's mission, later confirmed by the Senate Intelligence Committee, to be a previously undisclosed part of an important news story. I reported it on that basis.

The way I understood what he said...and I had NOT seen this column or Drudge's report...that Novak's SOURCE was the Who's Who of Joe Wilson...and had it verified by a CIA guy...
IOW..JOE WILSON actually supplied Novak the name.
Brit also said that the reason Novak is telling all now is...Fitzgerald has told him that he doesn't need anything further from him...and his coming forward would not affect the "CASE"..
Well of course it won't, because there never should have been a CASE...and poor Libby lied MAYBE, anyway.
Not the primary source, I don't believe. I think there will be a name released.
Maybe Drudge is confused (I never go to his site), but Brit Hume seems to be very clear, quoting Novak. In a nutshell, he got the name from "Who's Who in America" (a public source) and verified it by calling the CIA. Rather straightforward, all in all.
I think what happened is as follows:
1. Wilson writes his op-ed
2. Novak asks himself why an ex-Clinton guy like Wilson would have been involved in something for the Bush administration
3. He starts asking his around, talking to his sources
4. It was common knowledge, per Andrea Mitchell and other DC insiders that Wilson was married to a CIA woman. If Mitchell and the gang of 500 knew, Novak probably knew, pr picked it up through the usual DC gossip machine
5. He thinks perhaps his wife was involved. He asks Rove if he knows anything about Wilson, maybe his wife being a part of this
6. Rove says "I've heard something like that" or something of that sort
7. Novak calls Harlow for comment
8. Novak publishes the story

Based on Novak's claim that the initial source was "not a political gun-slinger" and accidently revealed the info in a long interview makes it sound like it's Armitage.

Where did I see that Larry Johnson might have been that "stranger in the street"?
the only question is who tipped off novak that wilson's wife was involved? why'd he know to go to the who's who entry in the first place?
I think it basic DC gossip that Wilson was married to CIA. He lived in Georgetown, he went to tall the cockltail parties and slaons, all the DC crowd knew about him and his wife.
Ergo, Novak just deduced it from the common knowledge he already had, and checked it with Rove and Harlow.
If I understood Brit Hume correctly, I think Novak DID reveal his primary source.
The evil cabal and anti-Bush rogues at the CIA would delight at this. It could've added to Tenet's removal. I'm still sick and in the dark about Porter Goss's exit.
