INDIA LAUNCHES INVESTIGATIONS INTO MUMBAI TERROR

New Delhi (dpa) - Indian security agencies Tuesday night launched an investigation to identify the terrorist outfit behind the deadly serial blasts in Mumbai, and to determine whether it was linked to grenade attacks in India-administered Kashmir earlier in the day, officials said.

Police in India-administered Kashmir had claimed that the Lashkar-e-Toiba(LeT) group was behind the grenade blasts that killed eight people Tuesday afternoon.

Indian Home Ministry officials told the NDTV network that investigators suspected the LeT group had carried out both attacks. But Home Minister Shivraj Patil told reporters that the security agencies had some leads and could not disclose any details until the investigations were complete.

In a related development, police in Delhi arrested a suspected LeT terrorist with 2 kilogrammes of explosives and were interrogating him to find out if he had any connection with the blasts in Srinagar and Mumbai.

Allegedly a Pakistan-based organization, the LeT (Army of the Pure) is the most dreaded terrorist outfit in India.

It has engineered several attacks in India in the past, including the October 2005 serial blasts in New Delhi, which killed 61 people, and an attack on Swaminarayan Temple in Akshardham in western Gujarat, which claimed 29 lives.

As the US press refuses to use the word Democrat at times, the global press refuses to name the motivating ideology of terror.

MUMBAI is the new name for Bombay correct?

So this was a direct hit in their largest city to days after massive rioting by Hindue tribes.

Doesn't seem all that peaceful there.

"As the US press refuses to use the word Democrat at times, the global press refuses to name the motivating ideology of terror."

I found one reference in the Fox News site that mentions Islamic Terrorists otherwise you are right, you can't find any mention that these bastar*ds are Muslim.

I'm really sorry that people are dying now in India... on the other hand...it is hoped that it may wake people up that we are now in WWIII. You are with us or against us.

Hindu tribes???????????????

Where did you get that from??First of all, there is no such thing as tribes in Hinduism. On Sunday,There were a few incidents of stone pelting & arson(not full-fledged rioting) by members of a rightwing regional party because some idiot defaced the statue of the late -wife of that party's leader. There was no element of Hindu-Muslim violence to those incidents. The current bomb blasts were planned a long time-possibly years ago.

Pinging you all!

Its a scary thought that only a few days ago I was traveling down Churchgate-Borivillie route (where the blasts took place). Its a route many of my friends and cousins take everyday! This incident is not just frontpage news for me anymore, I am now directly concerned about their safety.

I seriously doubt India can win this war on terror. This current pacifist government doesn't have spine to protect her people. I am not sure we are in a position to fight this war. Not with this spineless government in power.I am now only waiting to see how we would respond to this but I fear...........we have voted the wrong ones to power.

I used the same western line when I was in Bombay a few yrs ago. The stations all have an eerie familiar ring to them...Borivili, khar, bandra, Churchgate...

I agree. The UPA is about as bad as it gets short of the CPI(M) directly coming to power. BTW, the CPI(M) stands for Chinese Puppets in India (Morons), does it not?

I understand your sentiment. I anticipate that this terrorist act was done in order to prevent further talks between Pakistan and India, as this is not in the interest of the Kashmiri terrorists. The idea is that the attack will force the Indian government to show strength and comply to the wishes of some Indian nationalists and stop the talk with Pakistan. Hopefully, that will not happen.

It seems that India will not fall in the trap:

India's key Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad condemned the string of bomb attacks in Mumbai and Srinagar, and said in Delhi that former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, BJP chief Rajnath Singh and senior party leader L K Advani have appealed for calm.

"The BJP leadership condemns these blasts in the strongest terms," he said. Apex industry chamber Confederation of Indian Industry expressed shock at the blasts and hoped that calm and peace will prevail over Mumbai, India's financial capital. "We pray for calm and peace and hope that the perpetrators will be brought to book," the chamber said in a statement in Delhi Tuesday night. (ends) dr.bz.

OK, I admit, tribes was the wrong use of words. I did hear however they virtually shutdown the city turning over buses, stopping trains, etc. It was a full fledged riot.
