BOMBAY, India — Seven bombs hit Bombay's commuter rail network during rush hour Tuesday evening, killing as many as 100 people and wounding more than 300 in what authorities called a well-coordinated attack.
India's major cities were put on high alert after the blasts, and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh called an emergency Cabinet meeting.
Chaos engulfed the crowded rail network in India's financial capital following the blasts that ripped apart train compartments as authorities struggled to treat the wounded amid heavy monsoon downpours. Doors and windows were blown off the train cars, and luggage and debris were strewn across the tracks.
Police Chief A.N. Roy said on Indian television that an estimated 100 people were killed and more than 250 were wounded.
"We are busy in the rescue operation. Our first priority is to rescue the injured people," he said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility in the bombings, which came in quick succession _ a common tactic employed by Kashmiri militants that have repeatedly targeted India's cities.
A senior Bombay police official, P.S. Pasricha, said the explosions were part of a well-coordinated attack. Vilasrao Deshmukh, the chief minister of Maharashtra state, where Bombay is located, said bombs had caused all seven blasts.
Indian Home Minister Shivraj Patil told reporters that authorities had had some information that an attack was coming, "but place and time was not known."

Under the fabulous all so powerful radar of the fabulous LameStreamMedia here, a situation has been brewing for some weeks between India and the Tamil tigers - one half of the civil war that's been on and off in Sri Lanka for many years.
India has recently taken steps to directly assist, militarily in Sri Lanka against the Tamil tigers.
There is a large area of southeastern India that also has a dominant Tamil population, which is ethnically, politically and culturally related to the Tamils on Sri Lanka.
It would not surpise me if the Tamils turn out to be the instigators of the bombings today.
After all, India's has been moving to work against the Tamils in Sri Lanka now and the Tamils were the assasins of Rajiv Gandhi (when he was Prime Minister), late husband of Sonia Gandhi who currently heads the Congress Party in India.

What a sick, twisted mind it takes to dream up such violence and then say that you will be rewarded in Heaven for it. I am so tired of their violence and killing. All in the name of Allah the Merciful? They don't know the meaning of mercy. Prayers for all those in India.

They want to kill everyone who disagrees with their "religion." Anyone who is not a Muslim is an "infidel" worthy of death to these fanatics.
The Tigers will be signing their death warrant if they are behind this & while they maybe animals,they have more sensible political judgement.In other words,they have little to gain from attacking India,which is not OVERTLY helping the Sri-Lankan military.

But the Tigers are aware of the increasing extent to which India is given covert aid against them in Sri Lanka; in spite of how India has tried to keep that increase out of the public eye. The Tigers feel threatened by those actions more than any other actions taken by the government in Sri Lanka alone. As a result, their Tamil friends in southeastern India have raised there concerns about the Indian government as well. So far Muslims nor any one else has claimed responsibility. I will suspect the Tamils until evidence proves otherwise.
Sure you can believe what you want-thankfully most Indians don't think the way you do & it has plenty of experience to recognise a Slammy attack when it sees one.

Support for the LTTE from Tamil Nadu has come down to almost zilch-most Tamils know better & have recognised what sort of a monster V.Prabhakaran is.
Again, I am not trying to make excuses for Islamic terrorists, and if they are at fault then no one, not even me, will be surprised.
That said, given all current activities of all possible sources and current activities of the Indian government that someone may be signalling a response to - I still suspect the Tamils, at this time. I might be wrong and will not be upset if I am. It's just my opinion.

Matunga is a strongly Tamil area of Mumbai -- the Tigers would be destroying their own meagre support base if they bombed Bombay.
I knew that, but you are assuming that the Tamil presence in Matunga has only negative possibilities to my guesses. One could equally ask: if the Muslims are left with all the suspicions, or if enough Tamils in Matunga are also upset with India's increased covert aid to the government of Sri Lanka, then, either way, is your assumption of hurting their own base in Mantuga correct. Again, in the abscence of evidence against (or admission of fault by) anyone, it is only my speculation and I am not trying to excuse any possible Muslim terrorists.
