I'm not making a prediction, but it's interesting to think that the sane libs who appear moderate and reasonable pulling AWAY from the party could do more to defeat the Dems than many of our efforts.

U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman filed papers Monday that will allow him to petition his way onto the November ballot if he loses the primary election, his campaign said.
The three-term Democratic senator faces a tough Aug. 8 primary challenge from businessman Ned Lamont. Lieberman, whom fellow Democrats have criticized for his support of the Iraq war and a perceived closeness with President Bush, is popular among many unaffiliated and Republican voters in Connecticut.
AND HERE IS THE LAMONT CAMPS OPINION......................
Tom Swan, Lamont's campaign manager, has said an independent run would hurt Democrats.
"He does this from a position of weakness, where he looks like a desperate career politician attempting to cling to power," Swan said.
And today Lieberman is the scum of the party.
Old Joe is forming the "Mostly-Sane Democrat Legacy Party".
After all this time hasn't Lieberman figured out that you CAN'T be for the security of THIS Country AND be a Democrat?
Maybe Lieberman's independent run will split the Dem vote and a Republican will get in.
Lieberman is a far-left liberal. His ONLY dissent with his party is over the war on terror - which is significant, but hardly enough to get hysterical about.
If the U.S. can get a third party going, I hope it isn't focussed on Lieberman and people who are as liberal as he is.
For 20 years, Alan Schlesinger has been serving the citizens of Connecticut at the local and state level. Now, he wants to take that experience and make a difference for all of us in the U.S. Senate.
Political Experience:
* Two term Mayor of the City of Derby: 1994-1998
Defeated a popular Democrat Incumbent and Re-elected with over 80% of the vote as a Republican in a City with a 4 to 1 Ratio of Democrat to Republican registration.
Alan brought the City of Derby out of a deep deficit situation to a surplus and then reduced taxes.
* Six term State Representative: 1981-1993
Social Security:
Alan has a plan for a Guaranteed Social Security that would not allow the so-called "trust fund" to be diverted to other expenditures. All of the annual surpluses would be invested for the future in financial instruments such as mortgage backed securities earning real income for future retirees.
Medicare:
Alan believes that the government must face up to our future obligation by planning for the exponential increase in elderly medical expenditures by planning now with realistic policies with affordable eligibility requirements. The alternative is a 30 trillion dollar fiscal train wreck that most politicians choose to ignore.
Immigration:
Alan advocates a Seasonal Employee Visa as a way of stemming the tide of Illegal Immigration into our country. By mandating that these workers return to their native country for several months each year and crosschecking W-2 Tax forms for tax compliance, the pressure for illegal entry to the U. S. would be relieved since most of these workers currently stay all year long and bring family members through the border illegally due to their fear that re-entry into the U. S. is risky. In addition, Alan's proposal would mandate English proficiency within 5 years. Any violation would lead to denied re-entry and the illegal immigrant would be subjected to felony criminal charges. The road to citizenship would not be liberalized for any of these seasonal workers, they would have to get in line with all other foreign nationals.
Deficit Spending and the Budget:
Alan has warned that as interest rates rise, our national debt of nearly 5 trillion dollars will become too burdensome on the budget and in turn the taxpayer. He plans to reinstitute the Sen. Proxmire "Golden Fleece Award" as a way of drawing attention to the wasteful pork-barrel spending that dominates both parties in Congress. His goal will be to eliminate the federal deficit by 2010.
Tax Reform and Tax Simplification:
Alan has remained steadfast in his determination to reform and bring fairness to the federal tax code. The elimination of the complexities and special interest tax loopholes are at the center of Alan's tax code reform goals. As an example, we need to change the absurdity of not allowing a deduction for net yearly capital losses of over $3,000 while allowing capital gains on residential real estate of up to $500,0000 to go completely untaxed!
So Lieberman is pulling a Ross Perot.
Cool.
So Lieberman is pulling a Ross Perot.
Cool.
The Democratic Party has to be brought back to reality. Leiberman is the guy who could do it. He does not seem like a really bad guy too me. I would take Hubert Humphry over a Bill Clintoon anyday of the week.Just maybe Leiberman can get the Democratic leadership thinking again of themselves as Americans.
