Three assailants who cut the throat of an aspiring politician from Britain killed him and tried to rape his female companion early yesterday in the driveway of a Georgetown mansion, police reported, after the couple had returned from a night at the movies.
The victim, Alan Senitt, 27, a Jewish activist and volunteer for former Virginia governor Mark R. Warner, died at the scene, police said. The woman, whom police declined to identify, was not injured.
Within hours, D.C. police arrested four people in connection with one of the most brutal crimes in years on the affluent streets of Georgetown and said they were looking for possible links to other recent attacks in the city.

Was he wearing anything which might indicate he was Jewish? Maybe they can be upgraded to a "hate" crime.

I'm from DC. Yeah, DC has been high crime for years, but much of it is gang/drug related. I've never heard of a crime like this.
Maybe I should put on my tinfoil hat, but throat slitting and 'Jewish activist' make me think we have a certain religious group acting out. But maybe that's just me.

Activist Alan Senitt was set upon as he walked home with his girlfriend in the upmarket area of Georgetown in Washington DC yesterday, just two weeks after setting foot in the American capital.
The 27 year-old, a former chairman of the British Union of Jewish Students and member of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, was working for a Democrat in the run up to the presidential elections when he was mugged at knifepoint by a gang of four demanding cash and valuables at about 2am on Sunday morning. -Murdered Jewish leader had 'fabulous future'
I saw this story and was thinking ROP, at first! In the end, he was being chivalrous, and was able to prevent harm to his friend. Damn cretins in DC (and the muggers, too!)

The Starbucks at Wisconsin and S Street NW, across from the Safeway. Three employees killed, IIRC, during the Clinton years.
But that's the last one I remember in Georgetown.

The two were rummaging in the trunk of a car when they were approached by three men wielding a gun and a knife. Police said Piper, who had the gun, grabbed the woman and began dragging her down the driveway. Out of view of his companions, he tried to pull off her clothes, police said. The attacker made a comment "in reference to his intent to commit a sexual assault," said Lt. Robert Glover of the police department's violent crimes branch, which is handling the investigation.
Meanwhile, the other two assailants grabbed Senitt, stabbed him and slashed his throat.
As Senitt lay dying, the three men fled with the woman's purse. The woman ran onto Q Street, flagged down a taxi and begged for help.
It's nice to see the decency of people on Free Republic. If this was KOS and it was a foreign conservative now working for a Republican 2008 hopeful, they'd be gleefully celebrating his death. I'm glad to see we're above that and can see the horror in this senseless act. Of course the loons will probably say Karl Rove plotted this.
