Detroit, A Democrat Town, A Record To Be Proud Of ( Mostly )

Detroit, Michigan is a City in which all elements of political power is controlled by Democrats. It is absolute control as far back as I can remember.

State wide elected Democrats, including Governor Granholm, do absolutely nothing to provide reform to the citizens of Detroit.

“Detroit schools send more kids to prison and the welfare rolls than they do to college.”

My cousin lives in Sterling, VA. Visited him and went to Washington, DC.
Somehow I missed all the bad places. And am MUCH happier for it.
Saw Air & Space museum, and the Air and Space Annex. The museum was good, the Annex MUCH better (the guides LOVE their work). Heard they opened a really great aerospace museum at Dulles.

Would like to spend a week. But I'd still like to miss all the bad places...

That's why I'm voting for Mike Rogers in the next election.

Thanks so much for that link! Of course, seeing those specific shamefully wasteful (and needless) results of liberal" and progressive policies is sad and frightening.

I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit in Milford. My parents owned the most expensive piece of property in town. For years, a Detroit police officer and his wife, kept an eye on our house, patiently waiting for it to go up for sale.

Problem was, being a Detroit police officer, his residence had to be within city limits. He had to time his retirement with the purchase of our home. He was lucky it all worked out and he was able to leave the city and move into the home of his wife's dreams. It just took timing and they were patient.

I wonder how many people want to be employed by the city and remain forced to live within Detroit. It doesn't sound like an appetizing incentive to me.

"Port Huron is a good 50 miles from Detroit"

Nothing good about it, it's still too close!
Thanks for correcting me on Karl's name. I still remember how shocked I was when they showed the footage of him falling.

By the late seventies lots of cops and firemen were living illegally in places like Milford, Brighton, Ann Arbor, and Novi. Some got caught and got fired, some didn't.

I think the residency requirement has been rescinded. After the eighties, there were so few white people left in town that it didn't make any difference where the police and firemen lived, becasue they were mostly black too.

Now, lots of Detroit cops live in Southfield.

I think I got the link from another FReeper on a previous Detroit thread. It just makes me sick to think of all the commerce, the jobs, the way of life, that have been lost in the past 30 years.

http://www.ci.detroit.mi.us/fAQ.htm

The fact that these questions are frequently asked is just sad.

Q There’s an abandoned vehicle on my street. How do I get it removed?
Q There’s an abandoned building on my street. What should I do to have it demolished?
Q I understand the U.S. government provides commodity food for distribution. Who is eligible for receiving the food and where does one pick it up?
Q Whom do I call to report persistent gang activity?

et cetera...

I've lived all my life in Michigan and have been to Detroit a few times. I don't know if you've seen it, but there's a "Ruins of Detroit" website. Stay away from it; it will make you cry.

Speaking of Conyers and corruption...

Did you hear the Detroit City Council voted to rename the Detroit-Windosor tunnel the "John Conyers Tunnel" -- and that it was just a sham vote because the tunnel is privately owned?

Oh, did I mention that Conyer's WIFE also sits on the council and was the one who brought it for a vote?

I hate Detroit. I wish that black hole would just implode and get it over with.

There's plenty good about SE Michigan that is not Detroit. Detroit is a festering armpit. The rest of the body is good.

Metro is a nice airport. It's just not in Detroit. Neither is the Detroit Zoo.

I used to skip class at Wayne SU to run around Detroit, taking pictures. You can't take a bad picture in the city. Troubling, haunting, even nightmarish, but never bad. The architecture is stunning, even majestic, in spite of the city crumbling down.
