New York and Georgia courts will be on the wrong side of history of gay marriage.
THE HIGHEST COURTS of New York and Georgia last week moved in the opposite direction of history and justice on same-sex marriage.
By a 4-2 vote, the NY Court of Appeals ruled Thursday that the state Legislature's limitation of marriage to heterosexual couples was a "long-accepted restriction" not based solely on "ignorance and prejudice against homosexuals."
Adding insult to injury, an opinion signed by three of the judges in the majority ruled that it was rational for the Legislature to ban same-sex marriage in the interests of protecting children. Noting that "an important function of marriage is to create more stability and permanence in the relationships that cause children to be born," Judge Robert S. Smith wrote that the state could "offer an inducement in the form of marriage and its attendant benefits to opposite-sex couples who make a solemn, long-term commitment to each other." Never mind that childless heterosexual couples also receive legal benefits from civil marriage or that many gay couples are raising children.
The Georgia Supreme Court decision, also handed down Thursday, was narrower but still disappointing. The court rejected technical objections to a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage that was approved by state voters in 2004.
Neither of these decisions is binding on the courts of other states, any more than was the famous 2003 ruling by Massachusetts' high court that gay marriage couldn't be prohibited. So there's still hope that California's Supreme Court will take a more enlightened view of the issue when it next hears a challenge to heterosexual monopoly on civil marriage. Advocates of same-sex marriage have turned to the state courts since Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's ill-advised veto of a same-sex-marriage bill last year

we demand the right of Mr. Gere to marry the Gerbil/Hamster/Saltmarsh Harvest Mouse of his choice.
LA Times.
We'll see just which direction "History and Justice" is heading. Perhaps the world does not belong to them after all.
Why is it that the Left is so monumentally ignorant of the proper avenue for laws to be created in this nation? They clearly believe we should be ruled by a cabal of judges who rule from on high. One wonders why the left hasn't simply called for the elimination of all politicians and simply shift our rule to judicial fiat...that is clearly their belief.
Waiting with baided breath for them to call one billion muslims worldwide ignorant and racist as well.
Must be wonderfully simple living in their black-and-white world. Once you swear allegiance to your gonads the whole universe becomes elementary. What'er the issue just ask yourself "is it good for gays?"
"we demand the right of Mr. Gere to marry the Gerbil/Hamster/Saltmarsh Harvest Mouse of his choice."
ROFLMAO! I'm choking on my croissant and coffee! Best laugh of the day, so far.
Modern liberals are the Stalinists of our day: forcing their idealogy through the courts upon the citizenry. They lost this battle in the war in conservative Georgia AND in liberal New York. They must be beside themselves.
And now the California Supreme Court is going to rule on a gay marriage law in that state.
Stay tuned.
Where is this history of homosexual marriage they speak of?
Homosexuality is pervesion of truth. You can not expect a society to prevail if it allows standards to be torn apart by people who believe lies and want to be wholly selfish in their behavior.
In the US we recognize that we gain "certain unalienable rights" from "our Creator" and that same creator has set standards we have already acknowledged we would follow.
To ignor God or shun him will only destroy our great country.
Don't worry about NY. It most certainly does condone pervision. The rats are already working a bill through the state legislature that enshrines gay "marriage".
Our new governor-to-be, rat-faced Spitzer, has stated that he will definitely sign it.
The main goal of liberalism is to destroy Western Civilization. Uncloseted homosexuality and Islam both threaten the survival of the West. Thus, the L.A. Times will pander to both, even though Islam teaches that homosexuality is sinful. Liberals will even pretend otherwise if necessary, as in the film V FOR VENDETTA, where a homosexual protects and preserves the Koran from evil Christians who would burn every copy.
The left is obsessed with crushing the Judeo-Christian West. If sexually perverted hedonists help them do it, they'll support them. If Islamic fundamentalists help them do it, they'll support them as well. The immediate goal is to smash our civilization and to bury it for all eternity. They'll worry about the conflicts between the various anti-Western factions afterward.
I suspect the answer lies in the fact that they have divorced themselved from the Rule of Law as taught by James
Wilson reflecting Blackstone-- human Law-if valid Must not
violate the general laws of Nature (dictated by God,Himself.) Nor violate any positive precept of Divine Law reflected in Scripture. But IMO Liberals are divorced
from reality by a defect of the brain that tends to have
them distort the clear language and intent of all things.
It is impossible for people of the same sex to marry.
It is impossible for a person to marry an animal or a knothole.
Of course the people who accept the corrupted meaning of gay might also accept the corrupted meaning of marriage.
Gays, Gays, Gays...sick of their little trysts...as if the world revolves around their petty hedonistic issues. Just live together and be done with it. And don't parade your perversions in our faces. Try parading your perverted antics in Saudi Arabia or Pakistan.... see how long your heads stay attached to you......upper and lower.
I think the last society to recognize homosexual marriage was the ancient Greeks. A Greek household would consist of 2 male lovers as heads of family, and the female slaves they kept for breeding purposes.
Doesn't that sound just ideal?
which begs the question of how one separates the men from the boys in Greece....
....the answer? with a crow bar...of course.
...and maturation seems to be the key. When one is young one falsely believes they have all the answers and has a sense of immortality. These are false illusions, and as we grow older we begin to see reality. I believe that liberalism is more an arrested maturation. Examples within liberalism are common...but one example would be the silly desire to relive the 60's...I lived through the 60's...it sure wasn't as rosy as the liberals are now attempting to paint it.
There is far more history of polygamy --- and it is currently illegal, too.
