and how dare you take someons work and then edit it and then turn around and SELL it to make a profit.
Think they were renting it, not selling it. They were paying the royalities to the proper people (royalities that otherwise would not of been made).. but changing it they were.. some have suggested that they actually put the actual unedited copy and the cleaned version in the same package (I don't know about the double version to be honest, that would be interesting to know if it was true)..
What these companies were not doing was taking the artist's work without compensation... compensation was paid in the form of movie royalities as required.
Because it persuades people actually to look at the stuff. Fifty years ago, the movie industry made films for people of all ages and all classes. For twenty years or more films were made with a general audience in view. I dare say that the movies made between 1932 and 1962 were as good artistically as the ones made in the last twenty years. Now they make them for a limited clientele, the young and "hip." The liberal use of the "F" word and gratitious nudity is pandering to a narow audience. Potentially there is a much wider audience, but they do not care to attract that audience.
My understanding was that was not these companies do. You buy the DVD and then pay them to sanitize it.
How about these DVD players that you can program to edit out certain words and skip certain scenes? Is that okay to do in the privacy of your own home?
