After postponing it twice, Indian has finally test-fired successfully the Agni-III ballistic missile.The the longest-range nuclear capable missile was test-fired for the first times from Wheeler's Island off Orissa coast.
This has effectively put India on the threshold of an Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile capability with over 3,000 km range.
So far, India had a proven missile capability over a range of only 2,000 km with the Agni-2.
Just letting the ChiComs know that all of China and N.Korea are in range. Pakistan won't test...N.Korean's have already tested and failed.

Beijing's only about a 1000+ kms from the North East (especially Arunachal Pradesh or Assam). India has probably kept her ICBMs there. The dense forests there provide excellent cover to hide the ICBMs.
Fine. A range of 3,000 plus km will allow the Delhi government to reach Moscow, too - just in case.

The Pakistanis don't need to use the missiles. They'll use their US-built Air Force to deliver nukes. The Indian Air Force is severely outclassed at this time due to the legacy of crappy Soviet planes. They can't even keep them in the air safely.

I think its a lot farther than that to Beijing from the N.East. Besides we have to get our missiles there. Shanghai to Beijing is a 1000 km. I am guessing its about 2500 km atleast. We need to devise missiles that can be launched from ships. I also believe we need not invest in ICBMs.
We have no enemies beyond our immediate neighbourhood i.e Pakistan and China. An ICBM will present a threatening stance against countries in Europe and America. No need for it, not now. Atleast even if we develop the capabilities, testing it will not be prudent in the short to medium term.
An ICBM that can strike as far as Europe or the Americas would be the already-existing GSLV or even the PSLV, slapped with another coat of paint as an option. Technically.
How nice of you to enlighten us! How about letting us destroy all your American-made planes when they are still parked in your airfields with our missiles? It happened not so long ago unless your history lessons screwed you on that :).
As for the American planes, its like gifting jewels to a monkey. Paki pilots are so pathetic they'd probably crash perfect planes without any need for Indians to shoot them down. Our Soviet made planes are still good enough with our competent Indian pilots to take your neanderthals down in their sleep.
Range is only one half of the problem with ICBMs, another half is perfecting the accuracy aspect of such a missile, I am not sure we have developed it that far yet.
That's a lot of "plus".

Almost certainly. After Kim's little day out, launching missiles is the new way for second-tier countries to avoid falling into the third tier, and for third-tier countries to lobby for promotion.
I wouldn't be surprised if Russia tests a medium-range missile just to prove that the aging, waning former superpower can still, erm, get it up.
Pakistanies dont have a self-made missile system. They acquire it from N. Korea and China. This is how Kim got the nukes btw. So I don't think they have anything new to test unless the Chinese sold them something new.

Do satellite ejections not require much accuracy? The real difference, I heard, was that while a credible ICBM is almost always solid-propellent based, the GSLV and PSLV series aren't totally so, thereby increasing its arming time.
