You are absolutely correct that people died in the PATH terminal during the 9/11 terrorist attack. The burning jet fuel poured down the elevator shafts and sent a vicious tongue of flame out through the bottom. An employee on my team was an eyewitness. She was on one of the last trains entering the station. She observed two men trying their best to help a third individual blackened with what were likely fatal burns. We must remain vigilant.

Well, at my station, they have a pair of young, fit, alert Port Authority policemen looking intently at the those entering.

It is good that you have confidence. I travel a lot, and the TSA as well as the NY/NJ PA people do not give me a warm fuzzy feeling. Anyone remember which airports the hijackers used on 9/11? Until profiling is allowed at the federal level, it will be up to the individual. Unless we think that the Amish need to be rounded up to make the "numbers". Think about it. I don't know if eleven guys can pack enough explosives and detonate them simultaneously to collapse the PATH Tube. But their goal was quite nuanced. Far from trying to flood lower Manhattan, which as most know is above sea level, they sought to flood the PATH and by connection the nexus of subways throughout lower Manhattan. The corrosive effects of salt water would have damaged the Subway and PATH systems for months, maybe years. As New Yorkers discovered again last December during the TWU strike, NYC without its subway system is an economic shell.

I don't know if they could have made it work, but their plan was and is anything but dumb.
