WASHINGTON (July 6) - President George W. Bush, still down in the polls and grappling with grave matters on the world stage, is breaking his summer vacation routine this election year to travel the country and boost the standing of his presidency and the Republican Party.

This is a brilliant strategy that will work wonders for the Republicans in 2006. I am so glad that President Bush is doing this instead of hanging out at the ranch. Even though he continues to work during August, it gives MSM more ammo to lie about our President having lazy days of summer. I hate that every year even though every President has done this for as long as I remember.

Q: From where does the leader of the free world run things?
A: Anywhere he bloody well wants.
I'm sorry that the WHPC won't be sweating their pompous butts off in TX :)

Given that the VC-25A planes have a communications suite powerful enough to control even our nuclear forces if necessary, the President is never "out of touch" regardless of what some on the Left think.

This is terrible news, where or where is Mother Sheehan going to find a suitable ditch in which to spend her summer? That Bush has no consideration for poor Mother Sheehan, geez the least he could do is take her with him while her tours the country. I'm sure he would get sage advise on all manner of ways that he could fix things. No more war, no more poverty and alas gone would be the threat of global warming.
If only he would listen!

Thank God. Last year's holeup in Crawford, which allowed the media to focus on Cindy Sheehan's protest there, was what started the President's slide in the polls. I never understood why he would sit there in Texas for a month, while Congress is in recess. He can dominate the headlines all month and make the Dems in Congress look bad for taking their month off.
Karl Rove may be a campaign genius, but letting the President stay in Crawford for a whole month every year has been a huge mistake. Obviously Josh Bolten feels differently, with perhaps Tony Snow's voice added.

Holy crap, I just read that article. WTF is Pickler talking about?? "The White House is gambling that more exposure to the president in local media, where coverage tends to be softer than in Washington, will offset the harsh realities of a slowdown in the economy and trouble in Iraq." Huh?

President George W. Bush, still down in the polls and grappling with grave matters on the world stage... I think they are truly incapable of not putting some derogatory remark after writing, "President George W. Bush".

Yup. And maybe my tinfoil chapeau is on a bit too tight, but I hope this doesn't mean there may be something in the wind security-wise, and the political angle's being used as an excuse so that 43 can operate out of DC without worrying the hoi polloi..

You said exactly what I have been thinking. I think Tony has done a really good thing by getting Admin officials out in front of the press. They shine and can control the story better than what seemed to be the prior program--reacting hours or days later (if at all).

Yesterday, President Bush was in Chicago on a fundraiser, and had a press conference.
Well, according to Air Amerika and the libs on Hairball..he was RUNNING AWAY from the Washington Press Corps, hoping for "easier, more partisan" questions from the local yokel press (my interpretation of what they said).
The laughed that EVEN Chicago reporters know about North Korea, and would ask him a question about that.
They also complained that his "opening statement" was too long, and was more like a speech.
Also...they said it was kind of embarrassing for him to go to Illinois for a fundraiser for someone (Topinka) that didn't even WANT him there.
They also predicted he WOULD spend more time out of Washington, because he is HIDING from his real problems with N. Korea, Iraq, and THE ECONOMY....
If you will notice one theme here....they think that anyone NOT in Wash. DC or New York, is a bumpkin like Bush...so they don't KNOW the right questions to ask..and will give him a hoe-down and free pass.
BLECH!

Great strategy indeed.
As usual, the article reporting it is complete BS.

The President has got to just really really love Texas to spend August here. Someone here once said they have no fear of hell anymore because they have spent a summer in Texas. Might be an additional factor in why the press hates him so....having to stand out in the heat waiting for him. heh heh

If anyone needs a break, it's the president. But if he has fun driving the Rats nuts, so be it :-)
