"I lived through the entire Cold War and I remember Korea."

Don't be stupid. Korea isn't standing alone... they have China backing them. Ok, so you bomb N. Korea. What next? How do you protect S. Korea?

And what of Iran? It's very likely that Iran and N. Korea have some kind of loose alliance for just this kind of action. So, Iran declares war and sends troops into Iraq. So, bomb them too?
Now that we've bombed N. Korea and Iran, we've got problems with Syria, Saudia Arabia and China.

We don't need all the stuff China makes right? (including bullets and other military supplies). And the Saudis would never jack the price of gas up to $10/gallon, right? All those Wahabbis just love us.

But you have to take a stand right? Even if it's stupid and counter productive... it's manly.

What branch did you serve in?

Your post No. 40 rang a bell in my mind. Wasn't the Korean War considered a "Police Action"? I was just a kid at the time, so maybe I've got it wrong.

We declared war on North Korea in 1950 - and we've not yet declared peace.

Exactly. If they said, 'We consider sanctions cause to end the armistice', come wake me up. We've already dropped our declaration of war on them, but the armistice has it on hold. Unless they are threatening to end the cease fire, then who cares?

I think that little diqweed has been watching old reruns of "The Mouse That Roared". His only hope is to lose a war with us and then let us "nation build" and support him for the next 60 years.

China could turn the gas off to that nation in a moment.

The Russians and Chinese are blocking the most common sense things out of the UN and enabling the North Korean stuff.

I will in addition say I think the Chinese and Russians put NK up to the missiles to see how our missile defense worked and hoped we would have used it.

If the N. Kopreans are defeated and the two countries are united, your hypothesis fails. The Chinese know this and would probably step in against us in that likelihood...it could very easily escalate into a much broader conflict.

Which is exactly what my series of novels, The Dragon's Fury Series is all about. You can download the adobe ebook version of the entire series for free from the following thread here on FR.
