Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Katie Couric, one of broadcasting’s most respected and popular journalists, will be the keynote speaker for a fund-raising luncheon to benefit cancer research at the Moores UCSD Cancer Center on July 14. The event is co-hosted by KFMB-TV, Channel 8 and CBS News.

Tickets for the luncheon are $150 each; tables for 10 are available at $1,500/table for general seating and $3,000/table for preferred seating. A portion of the ticket price is tax deductible.

In September, Couric becomes the anchor and managing editor of the “CBS Evening News with Katie Couric.” With the appointment, she becomes the first female solo anchor of a network evening news broadcast. She will also contribute to “60 Minutes” and will anchor CBS News primetime specials.

Couric, who lost her husband to colon cancer and her sister to pancreatic cancer, has made a personal commitment to end the threat of cancer and to foster cancer research. Her efforts have generated millions of dollars for cancer research, and she is credited with creating a 20 percent increase in the number of colonoscopies performed nationwide following her on-air colonoscopy, done to reduce the public’s fear of this potentially lifesaving procedure.

In a personal note included in the invitation, she writes:

As many of you may know, cancer has touched me personally with the loss of my husband to colon cancer and my sister to pancreatic cancer. I have made a commitment to do whatever I can to increase awareness, and raise research dollars to help scientists develop treatments that will enable more people to live with cancer and, ultimately, lead to the eradication of this disease. Please join me along with KFMB-TV and CBS News to support the important work of the Moores Cancer Center at the University of California, San Diego, where medical researchers are working side-by-side with physicians to bring new discoveries and new hope to patients.

I hope to see you at the luncheon! Katie

-----

I guess by default she will also be the first female to fail as an anchor of a network evening news broadcast.

so katie is having to raise money .....
I would have thought she would do what she did to get to the top, instead of a fund raiser. LOL

"Most respected journalist in broadcasting?" Whoever wrote this must be off their meds.

Perky Katie joins a sinking ship at CBS. She will attract no more viewers in her new job as she did in the old. She is part of the reason why the alphabet networks have lost so many viewers to cable.

BTW, she is no "journalist." She is what the British call a "news presenter," in other words, a news reader.

(funny too, a "special" invitation to BUY your ticket)

CBS news is soooooooooo screwed. The only way they will get ratings is to fake the numbers. CBS is good a fake documents.

This will be the end of the male viewer at CBS.

There is no reason to watch any of the network news programs. Their news is old, days if not hours. There is zero depth. It is fully biased for the left, especially with anti-america couric.

Network news rots the brain.

she will do her first newscast like a typical feminist. She will be "professional" and manly because she thinks it makes her look more credible. It is already a farce.

"Private donors" ponied up a big sum ($115K?) to have Katie for the commencement
speaker at The University of Oklahoma this year.

Yes, there was some loud fallout afterwards...as in "how did this sh-t happen?".
