A Dozen Reasons why Commissioner Irey Can Defeat Rep. John Murtha
- John Kerry only managed to get 51% of the 12th district's vote in 2004, and Jack Murtha cannot realistically be expected to match that very high Presidential voter turnout.
- Diana Irey has 10 years of experience as Washington County's Commissioner, including seven consecutive balanced budgets without a tax increase.
- Veterans are incredibly upset with her dishonorable opponent, Mr. Murtha, and they are organizing to call attention to his despicable behavior. Two examples:

- Pennsylvania has already exhibited an anti-incumbent trend this year.
- While Jack Murtha does not, Ms. Irey, Pennsylvanians and Americans in general still strongly believe in the presumption of innocence - especially when it comes to freedom's defenders during wartime
- When Jack Murtha first joined Congress, American had not yet celebrated its bicentennial. Diana Irey is relatively young and attractive, while Jack Murtha is... not.
- Diana Irey is articulate, while Jack Murtha is a tightly wound, stuttering idiot.
- Mr. Murtha's brother - Kit - is a Washington lobbyist who in 2004 landed about $20 million for his defense contractor clients. Coincidentally (??), Jack Murtha has been the top recipient of defense industry dollars for the past three years. Source
- Rep. Jack Murtha is an unindicted co-conspirator from the Abscam scandal; Commissioner Irey is not.
- Diana Irey will be a member of the ruling majority party; Jack Murtha is twelve years removed from that position.

The part about Irey being young and attractive, whereas Murtha Is NOT, is quite funny. One of the reasons, HE'S GONNA BE OUT OF THE REP. BUSINESS!

Excellent idea. Turning down a debate with a vet would be even more embarrassing than turning down a debate with a challenger. Incumbents always denigrate challengers, and voters often do. But an articulate vet, if he has enough standing in the community and has the guts to go publicly against Murtha, could wound him badly -- even assuming that Murtha refuses a debate.

#1 goes to show that voter turnout will be the key factor if we assume that voter party trends stay the same.
Just like with all our races in November, it is about firing up the base. This is why I become very frustrated with many talking heads on our side who spend 99% of their time bashing their own side and pointing out the 1-2 differences and hot buttons that tear us apart instead of the 99-100 things that bring us together. (see Hannity/Savage)

Her biggest problem is that there may be skeletons in the closet. I'm sorry, but I am pulling out the BS card on this one. I have many acquaintances in the district who are strong in the party and know who has the skeletons, and they all say Diana's closet is as clean as they come.
I hope that this is simply a poorly worded post as we all know Murtha has skeletons in his closet (Abscam, etc..)
