PiS wants legal action against German daily

06.07.2006

The parliamentary caucus of the ruling Law and Justice party wants the justice ministry to establish whether the author of an article in a German daily satirizing President Lech Kaczynski and his brother insulted the Polish head of state. A letter to this effect was sent by the caucus head Przemyslaw Gosiewski to the national prosecutors’s office. The article, which compared the President to a potato, appeared in Die Tageszeitung at the end of June. Gosiewski argues that its language suggests the author intended to show unjustified contempt for Poland’s president. At the same time, the president’s aides denied the article caused President Lech Kaczynski to call off his presence at the Weimar Triangle summit earlier this week.

Well, there is a story about former German chancellor Helmut Kohl, who had the reputation of being one of the most unpleasant people to be around. But he never ever sued a satirical magazine, because he knew that this was a fight he could only lose.

The art of war - and of PR - is to choose those fights you can win.

The case of the baltic pipeline - Sure, go for it!
Mrs. Steinbach - Maybe, but you wouldn't want to elevate her, because she's basically a nobody.
A story about a potatoe named Kaczynski - No, you don't wanna get involved in that one!

Yeah, and have you heard, that Mr Gosiewski (one of my "favorite" politicians, BTW), announced today, that in his opinion - Polish prosecutors should consider a possibility to issue an European arrest warrant after the author of the "Taz" article?

And until I've read this news I thought, that Gosiewski couldn't have been bigger jerk and moron. I was obviously wrong.

Gosiewki is a total moron in my opinion, I bet that they wont sue “Taz” but just gave reason to media to bash them. Zero profits from this comment, only problems, he should be FIRED!

Unfortunately, LK has an extreme and irrational fear or distrust of others. This was shown already when he was head of BBN and collected information on other politicians. Later it turned out that it was done for personal gains and that he made personal copies of such information. I guess that is illegal...

This article is in the public domain:

New ABW Head

14 December 2005

Witold Marczuk has been appointed the new head of the Internal Security Agency (ABW). As of Nov. 3 Marczuk held the office after the dismissal of Andrzej Barcikowski. In line with the law, opinions on the candidacy must be provided by the president, the governmental Council for Special Services and the Sejm Committee for Special Services. However, none of these opinions is binding on the prime minister.

Marczuk is a close colleague of President-elect Lech Kaczynski. In 2002, he became commander of Warsaw's City Patrol Force with personnel of over 1,000. Earlier, he was General Customs Inspector three times, in 1992, 1998 and 1999-2001. In 1995, the public prosecutor's office accused Marczuk of failure to perform his duties regarding a case of cigarettes and audiovisual equipment smuggling, which caused the Treasury to lose zl.8 million. In 1999, the prosecutor's office found Marczuk innocent of the offense and discontinued the proceedings.

In 1991, Marczuk presided over the Fifth Department of the National Security Office (BBN) at the Office of President Lech Walesa (the then BBN head was Lech Kaczynski). The department was accused of surveillance of prominent politicians.

I agree that Kaczynski brothers should find some larger group of people worth of their trust. But it is not incidental that they share distrust of others, their experience in Solidarity caused this attitude. Walesa, Mazowiecki, Geremek and others simply got a deal with communist, they gave them significant influence on the country politics. They allowed them to be present in state owned companies management, secret services and administration. Kaczynski brothers whom were opposed to this stinky deal were put aside, ridiculized and forced to create own party.

I generally dislike Polish politicians from all parties, they are such a hypocrites and masters of demagogy that I simply cannot stand it…. But if we are talking about cleansing in the administration, secret services and management of the state owned companies I fully support PiS. This should be done a long time ago.

Sure, but they got a good deal at the time. You should always judge decisions with the information at hand at the time of the decision. Soviet Union was still in existence.

But if we are talking about cleansing in the administration, secret services and management of the state owned companies I fully support PiS.

Is PiS doing that? Why are they working with Lepper and his party that for sure is a creating of the "old structure"?

I am sorry, but the Moon-brothers are not fit to serve a modern free market economy.

Soviet Union is long gone and they still protecting each other. There is no justify for that kind of behavior. I have never said that brothers are the best thing what could happen to Poland but at least they are not scum. Samoobrona is the main obstacle to clean the house, I agree. Lepper would like to place their shady people on the influential position. Personal animosity between leaders of PO and PiS is outstanding and irrational on both sides. I can do nothing with this… Hopefully Samoobrona will lost their voters to PiS, it would resolve us many worries in the future.

Today Lepper demanded 20 influential posts in the administration and an amendment in the coalition agreement.

Unfortunately, I think that the Luna-brothers will accept as they prefer their own salaries in the administration for what is best for Poland.

Kaczynski said that there will be no revision of the coalition agreement Giertych said that he respect agreement. Lepper before failed to set his candidate for the top spot of the channel 3 of the Polish public TV.
