Putin seeks to start anti-terror offensive
Published July 5, 2006
MOSCOW -- Russian President Vladimir Putin asked parliament yesterday for the right to send soldiers and special forces anywhere in the world to fight terrorists, acting just days after having pledged to "destroy" the terrorists who killed five Russian diplomats in Iraq.
Moscow confirmed early last week that terrorists had killed four abducted diplomats, beheading two of them in an Internet video, after Russia refused their demand to leave the breakaway republic of Chechnya. A fifth diplomat was killed during the abduction June 3.
Russian security services last week offered a $10 million reward for the capture of the Islamic insurgents responsible for the killings.
According to a Kremlin statement, Mr. Putin yesterday went to the upper house of parliament, known as the Federation Council, to make his dramatic bid.

If we could get Spetznaz, IDF, and some of our SOG people together this could get interesting. First leak to NYT gets his head handed to him in a sack.

if he whacks a terrorist in Rome, will the Italians try to extradite him?

This is just more bluster. The oligarch has a whole region of his country controlled by Islamists and he wants to send troops around the world? Please, send them down the street first Putin.

My wife's nephew is Russian Spetsnaz, and has served 5 tours in Chechnya and one in Dagistan. I can say he STRONGLY disagrees with your implication that the Russians have done nothing about Beslan. Simply because you do not hear about Special Operations in the MSM does not in any way imply they are not happening. Likewise, we are likely hearing no more than 2% of what is going on in the GWOT the US is involved in around the world.

Well, I guess late is better than never. No kidding. I wonder if Putins new WOT will include withdrawing its assistance in the building of an Iranian nuclear program. Or will it take an Iranian supplied Chechyn nuke going off in Moscow before they get that "clue".
Besides, I thought all the Spetznaz troops worthy of the name went to work for the russian mafia years ago.

My Russian wife's nephew is a helluva good soldier and Spetsnaz. He has 19 years in the army, and 5 tours in Chechnya and one in Dagistan.
Sasha is her nephew Put your cursor on the picture for information.

Again, if Putin can't stop them in his own backyard we don't need him anywhere else. Be like asking the French to participate, why?

You would not ask that question if you had ever served in Special Ops.
