How sad all the way around.
Sad for his family, sad for his many victims who now won't see the justice of Lay serving out his prison term, sad for a promising life wasted by blind greed and lack of conscience.

Drudge said it was a heart attack, not suicide.

I was thinking the same exact thing.
Let's see how long it takes for the conspiracy theory nuts to get ahold of this and run wild with it.

He was guilty of a lot of things, but mostly of not minding the store and letting Fastow get away with pilfering the company. After reading The Smartest Guys in the Room, I'm convinced he never really believed that Enron wasn't a good, solid company. He believed his own hype and he paid for it big time. God bless his family.

He stole a heck of a lot of money from a heck of a lot of people, and his antics at the trial made it pretty clear that he wasn't even remotely the remorseful type. He was the type that gives capitalism a bad name in the minds of many people.
Hopefully he made his inner peace with God before he passed away.

Wow. What a shocker. I bet the stress of going to jail was a bit too much for the guy.
I think he was actually older than he looked. When you have that kind of money, you can afford to look younger on the outside, but that doesn't do anything for you otherwise.

Why does Drudge always give reports and not make sure they are correct.

Did Drudge say 'suicide' or killed himself. I guess, a heart attack is truly killing yourself.

Free Republic members seem to be doing a pretty good job of it without DU help. LOL

"Nevertheless, I hope his family isn't harassed, etc."
Agreed. His family is innocent.
As for Lay, I feel it's a shame the SOB didn't live long enough to do some time. He hurt more people than most. Now he and God can go over what Ken did wrong.
