July 4, 2006 -- FOR all the worldwide whining and bellyaching about the United States, today - America's 230th birthday - provides an opportune time for them to consider for just a moment what the world might be like without good ol' Uncle Sam.
The picture isn't pretty. Absent U.S. leadership, diplomatic influence, military might, economic power and unprecedented generosity, life aboard planet earth would likely be pretty grim, indeed. Set aside the differences America made last century - just imagine a world where this country had vanished on Jan. 1, 2001.

Take the U.S. out of the picture and the Commies and Socialists will be happy as clams.
Imagine a world where China is the predominant military power. Or where the Soviet Union was still around. Or where the Nazis were never completely defeated, or had been victorious.

If the USA is gone, the whole world will be gone. Thanks God this will not happen for many centuries to come.

My apologies. Just thought that it is such a great article and that I couldn't find it online in its entirety other than at the NY Post (registration required!), that I'd take a chance and post the entire thing. Please don't delete the thread or its excerpt though, Thanks :)
Happy Independence Day !

Thanking Peter Brookes for an apt column at the end of this Independence Day, which has been filled with the beauty of the lift off of the Discovery and the horror of launched missiles by an insane tyrant.
Envy? Yes. But what the civilized world truly hates is the sound of their own conscience - the one that whispers "Stand with America." It is easier for them to rail against us than to join as they should with us.

Agreed. Envy is a very destructive vice and the world, particularly Europe are suffering badly from it.

Without the USA :
1. German would probably be the official language of not just England, but the whole world.
2. Adolf Hitler's birthday would be a world holiday.
3. The one-world government would already be in total power.
