but between us... you've made a terrible mistake, haven't you? C'mon, admit it... don't you prefer this flag?...

We're always willing to welcome back the prodigal son, you know. We'll pretend none of this ever happened and take you back.

Except Ted Kennedy. He can (bleep) off.

I'd like to get my hands on a British history textbook, too.

Hey, in honor of Independence Day, here are two quotations from the king we rebelled against:

"I can never suppose this country so far lost to all ideas of self-importance as to be willing to grant America independence; if that could ever be adopted I shall despair of this country being ever preserved from a state of inferiority and consequently falling into a very low class among the European States."

"Knavery seems to be so much a striking feature of its inhabitants that it may not in the end be an evil that they will become aliens to this kingdom."

We love you too, George.

Thanks for taking the time out of your busy day to check up on your former colonies.

I thank you for the English language and the tradition of English Common Law.

As for me, I am glad the founding fathers made the break back around 1776. I'd rather be a free citizen of the Republic with a Constitution and the Bill of Rights than a Subject of the Crown or whatever you refer to yourselves in relation to your government.

Also, thank you for your support on the War on Terrorism. You are dependable allies.

I am sure your decendents will be welcomed over here as the last refuge of freedom once the Muzzies overrun all of Europe (including England).

Thanks again, and Cheers to you!

Oh, and what DO you Brits do on July 4th?

One of my dad's favorite stories about the 4th is that when he was a teenager and on his first trip to england, the band played "yankee doodle" during the changing of the guard at buckingham palace.
