The United States has witnessed a very public and ill-tempered debate between the vast majority of scientists on one side supporting Darwin's account of how species have evolved over time, and mainly Christian supporters of "intelligent design" and other variants of creationism on the other, with both sides arguing that schools ought to teach children their version of life's history.
What is less well known is that in recent years expensively produced glossy literature and DVDs arguing for the direct creation and fixity of species have also become very popular in many Muslim communities in the UK and Europe. The material disseminated largely originates from Turkey and are the works of a Turkish philosopher, Adnan Oktar, who writes prolifically under the pen name of Harun Yahya.
Harun Yahya's books, website and DVDs are all very professionally presented in a manner clearly designed to impress.
I first came across a Harun Yahya publication, The Evolution Deceit around seven years ago and to my untrained eyes it was revelatory.

... much like those women from certain Gulf countries who cast off their burqas as soon as they set foot on a plane to go overseas, it is quite possible that many Muslim students may come to wrongly blame Islam, rather than the ill-informed interpretation of the Qur'an by some Muslims, for denying the fact - not theory - of biological evolution.

There are a lot of Muslims at my university passing out anti-evolution literature, so it is pleasing to me at least to see someone think for a change.
We don't need muslims telling us anything
To think one needs to have something to do it with.
It's a good thing that leftists spent all their energy attacking Pres. Bush for the "culture of fear" that he creates, huh?
They jumped the shark after algebra
Since Darwin implicitly rejected G*d, I think that the answer is a big DOH.
Math came from India after the Arab conquest. Don't give Islam credit for things it didn't invent.
"Darwin and God: can they co-exist? "
They do co-exist.
The problem is, one is lying and the other one is not.
I believe in God so I couldn't possibly believe in Darwin.
Who do YOU have your FAITH in?
BTW, the evidence doesn't point to Darwin ... .
I am so torn. It would be a shame if Muslim students came to disdain Islam for the wrong reasons. And yet few among us would applaud a secular influence from prying at the chinks in the Islamic façade.
"Who do YOU have your FAITH in?"
This isn't a matter of faith, but of logic and evidence. While religion varies from place to place; science is universal.
Since Darwin didn't reject God I think maybe your wrong.
The question should be can the literal Genesis account and Darwinism Co-exist? The answer is no. For Genesis to be taken literally then a good bit of science has to be thrown out. It is much easier to take Genesis as an allegorical account of the beginning and leave the science alone.
That is a big kick in the head for people who interpret the Bible literally but sooner or later they will have to get over it. For now they are going to come to this thread scream and yell but really most of them are already dying off. They just like to make a big stink.
God called Darwin to stand before Him.
"Now that you have been here for a while, have you changed your mind about anything?"
... "Yes, Lord, I have ... Did You isolate mankind on the planet Earth so that they would develop into a unique kind of entity, like the turtles and lizards and birds of the Galapagos?"
The cult has not evolved since it assembled itself and crawled out of the dung heap of ancient history to stink up the world. They should have put a lid on the dumpster.
There is a somewhat disturbing lack of understanding about what evolution actually is, even within the evolution/ID debate. It's depressing, as a scientist, every time I turn on the television and see people arguing against and trying to suppress a theory they don't even understand.
Evolution does not attempt to address the origins of life. It only notes what has been observed to happen to that life once it has been created. Evolution and creationism co-exist perfectly.
We observe mutations every day -- children unfortunately born blind or with extra or fewer limbs. Those are examples of negative mutations. However, once in a while there is a mutation that, while unusual, actually BENEFITS the child. If the benefit is great enough, the opposite sex will instinctively find it attractive and the mutated gene will be passed down to the next generation. That is evolution.
Darwin, as a Christian, never suggested that God did not have a hand in the development or progression of human life.
Darwin's ideas on religion and his ideas on evolution are separate issues. Just as Nobel's ideas on chemistry and religion are separate issues.
I don't think God created fossils, so as to trick anyone. He created a few hundred of millions of years worth of life, so that I can fill my 40 gallon gas tank, and so that biologists have something interesting to study in school.
