For 1944 and for a Japanese mightiest aircraft carrier, it was impressive indeed!

In fact, Shinano's full load displacement of 71,890 tons topped by 200 tons the original full-load displacements of her one-time sister ships, Yamato and Musashi. Shinano retained the distiction of the largest aircraft carrier ever built until the commissioning of the nuclear-powered aircarft carrier U.S.S. Enterprise in 1961.

Actually a 72-ton aircraft carrier would be pretty amazing.
