Just an interesting note. The pilot is an identical twin and his twin is also a Shuttle pilot.

Could happen. What other country could launch seven astronauts and shoot down an ICBM on the same day? Or either?

...and how 'bout the fact that we can see, REAL TIME, a view out of the shuttle windows and a view inside the shuttle? Totally incredible! ChadGore, thanks for your screen caps.

Our American genius versus THEIR Medieval thought process...

A victory for the USA, Western civilization, and Newtonian mechanics!

They were saying that the scrub this weekend could result in extended mission time in orbit.

How do they know it's not his twin's twin that's really flying today??

I don't follow the spacecrafts as I should, but a few years ago I happened to read that the space station would be flying over the northeast. I went to a site that told us the exact time, and the specific direction it would be traveling.

I will never ever forget that night. My daughter, her boyfriend and I watching the space station fly across the clear sky. Unfortunately, it was late, and my young grandson had been in bed for hours. I would have loved to share that moment with him!

Here is a pic of Mir and shuttle from a 12 inch scope (will cost about $3500 bucks)

Just catching my breath now. If I ever get down there to see a launch, I'm afraid it will have to be an unmanned one; a hell of a lot easier on the heart and nervous system.

You typically get 3-4 nighttime passes of ISS per month and the same number of pre dawn passes.

Lots of interesting stuff, the Hubble, spy sats, Iridium satellites flaring, spent rockets tumbling (they flash).

Despite the success of this launch, I still think we should scrap the Hubble servicing mission...
